Who delivers electricity in Abram

AEP Central owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Abram. Whichever plan you pick, AEP Central still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes AEP Central delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Yes — most Abram addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

As a resident or business owner within Abram, you have the power to choose the electricity provider that best meets your specific needs.

Compare Power is a free consumer service started in 2009 to assist residents of Abram in shopping for their lowest rate energy plan.

These official rates are the same rates you’ll find calling the electricity providers or visiting their websites.

Energy in Abram is deregulated. As a consumer of energy, you have a choice when it comes to selecting a retail electricity provider (your energy provider), which gives you control and power over your energy bill.

Deregulation of energy in Texas de-monopolized the energy market for the majority of the state, the city of Abram included, which introduced massive competition.

As a result, many excellent energy companies compete for your business in Abram by offering low prices, making it a great time to compare, switch, and save costs on your power statement.

As many as 100+ retail electricity providers compete for your business in Abram and there are hundreds of plans to select from.

How to find the best energy plan in Abram

#1 rule: Usage is king!

Discovering how much energy you will use month-to-month is the best way to shop for electricity in Abram. Why is this important?

The “price per kWh” you see power companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different equation for how your monthly statement is determined, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much electricity you consume in each month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you enrolled.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to select your power provider.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly bill, is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.

Even better, if you have 12 months of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method takes into account the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to find the perfect energy plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you in an instant. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now solved in just moments.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans and guide you step-by-step to the electricity plan that’s best for your home’s consumption.

We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges and fees, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then assist you in enrolling with your chosen electricity company without leaving our service.

The bottom line is you must understand your expected or historical usage before selecting the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you are unable to acquire 12-months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12-months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to find the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Abram: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Abram, to get the best rate you need to get the previous 12-months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous home-owner to provide you with their past 12-months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12-months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or to possibly switch plans.

Switching electricity companies in Abram

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower price each year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing electricity company will normally raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly higher than the plan you signed up.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract make sure to shop the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars each year on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you make the switch, your new energy company will handle everything for you including terminating service with your previous company.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Abram is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days early of your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you are unsure email us your latest energy bill and one of our team members will get back to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the truly lowest price.

You will want to gather your past usage for the last 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Abram was established in the early 1900s as a small farming community along the Missouri Pacific Railroad line in the Rio Grande Valley. The town was named after Abram Vela, a prominent Mexican-American landowner who donated land for the railroad depot and encouraged settlement in the area during the great agricultural boom that transformed South Texas.

RECENT

In 2020, Abram became part of a major renewable energy initiative when a large solar farm was constructed on former agricultural land just outside the community. The 50-megawatt facility generates enough clean electricity to power over 10,000 homes and represents the Rio Grande Valley's transition from purely agricultural to diversified energy production.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

While Abram itself is small, the surrounding Rio Grande Valley has produced numerous notable figures, including actress Eva Longoria who grew up nearby in Corpus Christi but has family roots in the Valley. The area is also known for producing several Major League Baseball players, with many scouts regularly visiting local high school games in communities like Abram.

DID YOU KNOW

Abram sits in one of the most biodiverse regions of North America, where the Chihuahuan Desert meets subtropical climate zones. The area is a critical stopover point for over 500 species of birds during migration, making this tiny community a hidden gem for birdwatchers who travel from around the world to spot rare species that can't be found anywhere else in the United States.

CULTURAL

Abram celebrates its agricultural heritage every fall with a small but vibrant harvest festival that showcases the area's famous Ruby Red grapefruit and sweet onions. The community maintains strong ties to traditional Mexican culture, with many families tracing their roots back several generations, and Spanish is commonly spoken alongside English in daily life throughout the area.
