Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

Deregulation of energy in the state de-monopolized the electricity market for most of the state, the city of Quemado included, which introduced competition.

As a result, many excellent power providers compete for your business in Quemado by offering low rates, making it a great time to shop, switch, and save money on your energy bill.

As many as 100+ energy companies compete for your business in Quemado, and hundreds of plans exist to sort through.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Quemado

#1 rule: Usage is king!

Knowing the amount of energy you will use each month is the best way to shop for power in Quemado. Why should you care?

The “price per kWh” you see electricity providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly bill is computed, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much electricity you use in the month.

Unless you use precisely the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you ordered.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to select your electricity plan.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your home.

Better still, if you have a year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to determine the right electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now solved in a few seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans, and navigate you step-by-step to the energy rate plan that’s best for your household’s usage.

We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then help you sign up with your chosen power provider without leaving our service.

The takeaway here is you should determine your expected or historical usage before selecting the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate your average monthly energy usage.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly picking the first plan you see advertised by an energy provider at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Quemado: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Quemado, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: You can estimate your monthly usage if you can’t obtain a usage history. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching Electricity Companies in Quemado

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly in flux, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate every year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing energy provider will typically raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you do not act, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don’t have to call your current provider to cancel (no “break-up call”)
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your electricity supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you switch, your new energy company will cover everything, including terminating service with your previous provider.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Quemado is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date within 14 days of your contract expiration without an “early termination” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the lowest price.

You will want to find your historical usage for the past 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Quemado Electricity Rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Quemado was established in the 1880s as a railroad town along the International-Great Northern Railroad line connecting San Antonio to Laredo. The town's name means 'burned' in Spanish, referring to a devastating prairie fire that swept through the area before settlement, leaving the landscape charred and barren for miles around.

RECENT

In 2020, Quemado became one of the smallest Texas cities to receive federal broadband infrastructure grants, bringing high-speed internet to this remote border community for the first time. The $2.3 million project connected all 85 households and local businesses, transforming educational and economic opportunities for residents who previously relied on satellite internet.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music songwriter and performer Augie Meyers, founding member of the Sir Douglas Quintet and longtime collaborator with Doug Sahm, spent part of his childhood in Quemado visiting relatives. His experiences in this small border town influenced his later incorporation of Tex-Mex musical elements into rock and roll, helping create the distinctive 'San Antonio Sound' of the 1960s.

DID YOU KNOW

Quemado holds the unusual distinction of being the only incorporated Texas city where wild javelinas regularly roam the main street and attend city council meetings. The building's open-door policy during mild weather has led to these pig-like creatures wandering into official proceedings at least a dozen times since 2015, with one memorable incident where a javelina family took shelter during a thunderstorm and refused to leave until after the meeting concluded.

CULTURAL

Despite having fewer than 250 residents, Quemado maintains one of Texas's most authentic weekly rodeos, held every Saturday night from March through October behind the old railroad depot. Local ranchers and cowboys from both sides of the Rio Grande participate in this informal competition that has continued uninterrupted for over 40 years, with no entry fees, no prizes except bragging rights, and barbacoa served from the back of pickup trucks.
