Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

As a result, many fantastic power companies compete for your business in Point Comfort by offering low rates, making it a great time to shop, switch, and save money on your electricity bill.

As many as 65+ energy companies compete for your business in Point Comfort, and hundreds of plans exist to select from.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Point Comfort

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Determining how much electricity you will use in a month is the ideal way to shop for power in Point Comfort. Why should you care?

The rate you see energy companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different equation for how your monthly statement is determined, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much energy you consume each month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will pay a “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you ordered.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to pick your electricity provider.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing options by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your household.

Better still, if you have a year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter and is the ideal way to discover the perfect energy plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you instantly. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now done in a few moments.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans and guiding you step-by-step to the electricity rate plan that’s best for your home’s consumption.

We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then help you order your plan with your chosen energy provider without leaving our service.

The bottom line is you should determine your expected or historical usage before selecting the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate your average monthly energy usage.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Point Comfort: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Point Comfort, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: You can estimate your monthly usage if you can’t obtain a usage history. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or possibly switch plans.

Switching Electricity Companies in Point Comfort

Switching is good. Market conditions constantly change, so you must shop for a lower price each year when your contract expires.

Your existing energy provider will typically raise your energy rate once your term expires. If you do not act, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don’t have to contact your current company to cancel (no “break-up call”)
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your electricity supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you decide to switch, your new energy company will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Point Comfort is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date within 14 days of your contract expiration without an “early termination” penalty. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the lowest rate.

You will want to gather your past usage for the last 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Point Comfort Electricity Rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Point Comfort was established in 1897 as a company town by the Hercules Powder Company to manufacture gunpowder and explosives for mining operations. The town's strategic location on Lavaca Bay provided deep-water access for shipping materials, and during World War I, it became a crucial supplier of munitions to the Allied forces, earning it the nickname 'The Powder Town of Texas.'

RECENT

In 2019, Point Comfort completed a major infrastructure upgrade that included new water treatment facilities and upgraded electrical systems to support the growing petrochemical industry along the Gulf Coast. The project attracted over $50 million in new industrial investment and created dozens of high-paying jobs for this small community of fewer than 800 residents.

OTHER

FAMOUS PEOPLE/EVENTS: Point Comfort gained national attention in 1947 when the Texas City Disaster's shock waves were felt here, located 30 miles away across the bay. Local resident and future NASA engineer Robert Gilruth, who later directed the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs, was working at nearby industrial facilities and witnessed the massive explosion that killed over 580 people.

DID YOU KNOW

Point Comfort is home to one of the largest formaldehyde production facilities in North America, operated by Celanese Corporation, which produces enough formaldehyde annually to supply the entire U.S. plywood industry. The plant's massive cooling towers are visible from over 20 miles away and serve as a landmark for boaters navigating Lavaca Bay.

OTHER

CULTURAL/UNIQUE: Despite having fewer than 800 residents, Point Comfort operates its own independent school district with a student-teacher ratio of just 8:1, one of the lowest in Texas. The Point Comfort Pirates football team has won multiple state championships in six-man football, and the entire town shuts down on Friday nights to attend games, creating a legendary small-town atmosphere that visiting teams find intimidating.
