Who delivers electricity in Palestine

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Palestine. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes Oncor delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Quick answers

Palestine electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the Oncor territory average 15.3¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.8¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Oncor is Palestine’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; Oncor delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Palestine addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Palestine today is 6.8¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

We currently price 122 plans in Palestine, every one from a PUCT-licensed provider we work with, priced with delivery included.

As a resident or business owner within Palestine, you can choose the electricity provider that best meets your needs.

Compare Power is a free consumer service started in 2009 to assist residents of Palestine searching for their lowest-rate energy plan.

Plan information is presented in a user-friendly format that enables a quick and simple comparison of available plans and options.

Offers from many different energy companies are shown in a powerful layout that makes comparing your options simple and fast.

This assures Texas energy customers to avoid hidden fees and advertising gimmicks by comparing plans “apples-to-apples” without spending hours calling different energy companies or clicking through dozens of websites.

Energy in Palestine is deregulated. As a resident, you can choose a retail electricity provider (your energy provider), which gives you flexibility and power over your energy bill.

Deregulating electricity in Texas de-monopolized the electricity market for most of Texas, the city of Palestine included, which introduced lots of competition.

As a result, many fantastic power providers compete for your business in Palestine by offering low prices, making it a great time to compare, switch, and lower costs on your power bill.

As many as 60-100 providers compete for your account in Palestine, with hundreds of plans to select from.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Palestine

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Discovering the amount of electricity you will consume month-to-month is the ideal way to shop for electricity in Palestine. Why is this important?

The rate electricity providers advertise for an exact monthly usage (usually 1000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different equation for how your monthly statement is determined, and your monthly bill will change according to how much energy you use each month.

Unless you use the advertised amount each month, you will pay a “price per kWh” different than what you saw when you signed up.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to select your power provider.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing plans by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the best rate for you.

Even better, if you have 12 months of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to discover the perfect electricity rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now solved in just moments.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans and assisting you step-by-step with the energy plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to expect on your monthly bill.

We help you sign up with your selected energy provider without leaving our website.

The bottom line is you should know your expected or historical usage before selecting the right energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate your average energy usage.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Palestine: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up an electricity service in Palestine, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching Electricity Companies in Palestine

Switching is good. Market conditions constantly change, so you must shop for a lower price each year when your contract expires.

Your existing energy company will typically raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you fail to act, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don’t have to call your current company to cancel (no “break-up call”)
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your electricity supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you decide to switch, your new energy provider will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Palestine is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days before your contract ends without an “early termination” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the lowest rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you must collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Palestine Electricity Rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Palestine was founded in 1846 and named after Palestine, Illinois, by early settler Daniel Parker who established a Baptist colony in the area. The city became a major railroad hub in the 1870s when the International-Great Northern Railroad and the Texas & Pacific Railway intersected here, transforming it from a small farming community into a bustling commercial center that served as the 'Crossroads of East Texas.'

RECENT

In 2019, Palestine completed a $12 million downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street and created the Palestine Town Square. The project included new sidewalks, period lighting, and landscaping that has attracted new businesses and restaurants, helping to reverse decades of downtown decline and earning recognition from the Texas Historical Commission.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Palestine is the birthplace of Sandra Day O'Connor, who became the first woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court when she was appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1981. Born here in 1930, O'Connor spent her early childhood in Palestine before her family moved to Arizona, but she always maintained ties to her Texas roots and visited the city throughout her distinguished legal career.

DID YOU KNOW

Palestine is home to the Texas State Railroad, which operates vintage steam locomotives on a 25-mile route through the Piney Woods of East Texas. The railroad was originally built in 1881 using convict labor to transport iron ore from a prison-operated smelter, and today it's one of only a few places in America where you can still ride behind a working steam engine through dense forest, complete with authentic 1920s passenger cars.

CULTURAL

Every spring since 1935, Palestine has hosted the Texas Dogwood Festival, celebrating the city's abundance of native dogwood trees that bloom throughout the Piney Woods. The festival draws over 100,000 visitors annually and features the crowning of the Dogwood Queen, trail rides through blooming forests, and arts and crafts vendors, making it one of the oldest continuous festivals in Texas and earning Palestine the nickname 'City of Dogwoods.'
