Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Oilton

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Knowing the amount of energy you will use each month is the best way to find a deal on energy in Oilton. Why should you care?

The rate electricity companies advertise is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly bill is determined, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much energy you use in a month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to select your energy plan.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing rates by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the best rate for you.

Better still, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to find the right electricity rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now done in seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans and guide you step-by-step to the energy plan that’s best for your household’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to expect on your monthly bill.

We then help you order your plan with your chosen power provider without leaving our website.

The takeaway here is you should understand your expected or historical usage before choosing the right electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage or own a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Oilton: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Oilton, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: You can estimate your monthly usage if you can’t obtain a usage history. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or switch plans.

Switching Electricity Companies in Oilton

Switching is good. Market conditions are always in flux, so it is important to shop for a lower price each year when your contract is about to expire.

Your existing energy provider will typically raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you do not act, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don’t have to contact your current provider to cancel (no “break-up call”)
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your electricity supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you switch, your new electricity company will handle everything, including terminating service with your previous provider.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Oilton is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days early from your current contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the best rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you must collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Oilton Electricity Rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Oilton was founded in 1921 during the South Texas oil boom when the discovery of oil in nearby Duval County transformed the region from cattle ranching to petroleum production. The town was literally built around oil derricks, with Main Street running between active drilling sites, making it one of the few Texas communities where oil wells operated within the city limits from day one.

RECENT

In 2019, Oilton experienced a mini-revival when new horizontal drilling techniques made previously uneconomical oil reserves profitable again. Several new wells were drilled using modern fracking methods, bringing the first significant oil revenue to the tiny community in over three decades and allowing the city to pave its main roads for the first time since the 1980s.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

While Oilton never produced major celebrities, it was a regular stop for legendary wildcatter H.L. Hunt in the 1920s, who used the town as a base for his early oil speculation in South Texas. Hunt would later become one of the richest men in America, and locals still tell stories of his poker games in Oilton's long-demolished hotel where he sometimes wagered oil leases instead of cash.

DID YOU KNOW

Oilton holds the unusual distinction of being one of the smallest incorporated cities in Texas to have its own post office, fire department, and municipal government despite having fewer than 400 residents. The city maintains its independence partly because its oil and gas tax revenues per capita are among the highest in the state, generating enough income to fund city services that towns ten times larger struggle to provide.

CULTURAL

Every Labor Day weekend, Oilton hosts the 'Roughneck Reunion,' a celebration that draws former oil workers and their families from across Texas to commemorate the town's petroleum heritage. The event features vintage drilling equipment displays, storytelling sessions about the old boom days, and a chili cook-off where recipes are often passed down from the original oil camp cooks of the 1920s.
