Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Oak Valley

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Determining the amount of electricity you will consume month-to-month is the ideal way to shop for electricity in Oak Valley. Why is this important?

The rate electricity providers advertise is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly statement is computed, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much power you use in the month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you enrolled.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to choose your electricity plan.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing options by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your household.

Even better, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to determine the perfect electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What could take hours inside a spreadsheet is solved in a few seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and assisting you step-by-step with the electricity rate plan that’s best for your household’s consumption.

We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then assist you in enrolling with your chosen electricity company without leaving our website.

The takeaway here is you should understand your expected or historical usage before choosing the right energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate your average monthly energy usage.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an energy company at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to find the best energy plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Oak Valley: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Oak Valley, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool can assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan in minutes through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching Electricity Companies in Oak Valley

Switching is good. Market conditions are always in flux, so it is important to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract is about to expire.

Your existing energy provider will typically raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you do not act, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don’t have to call your current provider to cancel (no “break-up call”)
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your electricity supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you decide to switch, your new energy company will handle everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Oak Valley is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date within 14 days of your contract expiration without an “early termination” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the lowest price.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you must collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Oak Valley Electricity Rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Oak Valley was established in the 1870s as a farming community along the railroad line between Dallas and Houston. The town got its name from the massive oak trees that lined the valley where early settlers built their homes, many of which were over 200 years old when the first pioneers arrived and provided crucial shade and building materials for the growing settlement.

RECENT

In 2020, Oak Valley completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings from the early 1900s into a community center and small business district. The $2.3 million project was funded through a combination of state rural development grants and local fundraising, bringing new life to the town's main street after decades of decline.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music songwriter Red Lane, who penned hits for Merle Haggard including 'The Fugitive' and 'If We Make It Through December,' was born and raised in Oak Valley in the 1930s. Lane went on to become one of Nashville's most successful songwriters, but he always returned to Oak Valley for family gatherings and credited the town's peaceful atmosphere with inspiring his most heartfelt compositions.

DID YOU KNOW

Oak Valley is home to one of Texas's last remaining one-room schoolhouses that operated continuously from 1889 to 1967, making it one of the longest-running single-room schools in the state. The building still contains the original slate blackboards, wood-burning stove, and even some of the wooden desks carved with initials from students spanning nearly eight decades of education.

CULTURAL

Every October, Oak Valley hosts the annual 'Acorn Festival' where residents compete in unique contests like acorn spitting, oak leaf art, and the famous 'Mighty Oak' tree climbing competition for kids. The festival began in 1952 as a harvest celebration and has become a beloved tradition that draws visitors from across East Texas, with some families attending for four generations running.
