Who delivers electricity in Moody

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Moody. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes Oncor delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Quick answers

Moody electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the Oncor territory average 15.3¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.8¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Oncor is Moody’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; Oncor delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Moody addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Moody today is 6.8¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

We currently price 122 plans in Moody, every one from a PUCT-licensed provider we work with, priced with delivery included.

You have the power to choose your household’s energy provider in Moody.

Compare Power is a free consumer service started in 2009 to help residents of Moody shopping for their best energy plan.

Plan information is presented in a user-friendly format that enables quick and simple comparison of available plans and options.

Plans from many different energy providers are presented in a standardized layout, making evaluating alternatives simple and quick.

This assists Texas energy customers in avoiding hidden charges and advertising gimmicks by comparing plans “apples-to-apples” without spending hours making phone calls or navigating hundreds of different online sites.

Energy in Moody is deregulated. As a resident, you have a choice when selecting a retail electricity provider (your electricity provider), which gives you control and power over your energy bill.

Deregulation of energy in the state de-monopolized the energy market for most of Texas, including the city of Moody, which introduced lots of competition.

As a result, many excellent energy companies compete for your business in Moody by offering low prices, making it a great time to shop, switch, and lower costs on your energy bill.

As many as 60-100 energy companies compete for your account in Moody, with hundreds of plans to select from.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Moody

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Knowing how much electricity you will use monthly is the ideal way to shop for power in Moody. Why should you care?

The “price per kWh” you see power companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly bill is determined, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much power you use in a month.

Unless you use precisely the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to pick your electricity provider.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing options by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for you.

Better still, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to discover the perfect energy plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you instantly. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now solved in just moments.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans and assisting you step-by-step with the energy rate plan that’s best for your household’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then help you order your plan with your selected energy company without ever leaving our website.

The bottom line is you must know your expected or historical usage before picking the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate your average energy in any given month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an energy company at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Moody: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Moody, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: You can estimate your monthly usage if you can’t obtain a usage history. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or possibly switch plans.

Switching Electricity Companies in Moody

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower price every year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing electricity provider will typically raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you do not act, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don’t have to contact your current company to cancel (no “break-up call”)
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your electricity supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you decide to switch, your new energy company will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Moody is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days early from your current contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the best rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you must collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Moody Electricity Rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Moody was founded in 1881 as a railroad town along the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, originally named after Colonel William Lewis Moody Sr., a prominent Galveston businessman and cotton trader. The town served as a crucial shipping point for cotton from the surrounding Blackland Prairie farms, with the railroad bringing prosperity and growth to the small agricultural community in McLennan County.

RECENT

In 2020, Moody completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Avenue F, including the conversion of the old cotton warehouse into a community event center. The project was funded through a combination of state historic preservation grants and local fundraising efforts, bringing new life to the town's historic commercial district.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Moody was the childhood home of Dan Blocker, who played Hoss Cartwright on the long-running TV western 'Bonanza' from 1959 to 1972. Blocker, who stood 6'4' and weighed over 300 pounds, was born in nearby De Kalb but spent much of his youth in Moody before attending Sul Ross State University and eventually making his way to Hollywood.

DID YOU KNOW

Moody is home to one of the last remaining original Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad depots in Central Texas, built in 1882 and still standing in its original location. The depot now serves as a museum and houses artifacts from the town's railroad heritage, including the original telegraph equipment that was used to coordinate train schedules across the MKT line for over 80 years.

CULTURAL

Every October, Moody hosts the annual Cotton Festival, celebrating the town's agricultural heritage with a parade featuring antique tractors, cotton picking demonstrations, and a contest for the best cotton-themed costume. The festival draws visitors from across McLennan County and features live bluegrass music, homemade pies, and storytelling sessions about the old cotton farming days in the Blackland Prairie region.
