How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Monte Alto

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Determining the amount of energy you will consume monthly is the best way to find a deal on energy in Monte Alto. Why does this matter?

The “price per kWh” you see power providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly bill is computed, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much energy you consume in a month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you enrolled.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to shop for an electricity provider.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing options by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the best rate for your home.

Better still, if you have 12 months of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to determine the perfect energy rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in a few seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans and guide you step-by-step to the electricity plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then help you enroll with your selected energy company without ever leaving our service.

The takeaway here is you should determine your expected or historical usage before choosing the right electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage or own a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Monte Alto: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Monte Alto, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage by utilizing our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool can assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan in minutes through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching Electricity Companies in Monte Alto

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly in flux, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing electricity provider will typically raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don’t have to contact your current company to cancel (no “break-up call”)
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your electricity supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you switch, your new electricity company will take care of everything for you, including terminating service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Monte Alto is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your contract ends without an “early cancellation” penalty. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the lowest price.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you must collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Monte Alto Electricity Rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Monte Alto was founded in 1927 as a planned agricultural community by land developers who purchased large tracts from the original Spanish land grants in the Rio Grande Valley. The town was strategically located along the Missouri Pacific Railroad line to serve as a shipping point for citrus fruits and vegetables grown in the fertile valley soil, with many of the original settlers being farmers from the Midwest seeking year-round growing seasons.

RECENT

In 2020, Monte Alto completed a major infrastructure improvement project that upgraded the city's water treatment facility and installed new water lines throughout the community. The $2.3 million project was funded through a combination of USDA rural development grants and state funding, significantly improving water quality and pressure for residents while positioning the city for future growth.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Monte Alto is the hometown of several notable figures in South Texas politics and education, including former Texas State Representative Kino Flores, who served in the legislature for over two decades. The small community has also produced numerous educators who have gone on to lead school districts throughout the Rio Grande Valley, earning Monte Alto a reputation as a 'teacher's town' in the region.

DID YOU KNOW

Monte Alto holds the unique distinction of being one of the few Texas cities where the original town plat from 1927 remains virtually unchanged, with the same street grid and lot divisions still in use today. The city's founders used a surveying technique called 'section and township' mapping that was more common in the Midwest, creating perfectly rectangular city blocks that are unusual for South Texas communities of that era.

CULTURAL

Monte Alto celebrates its agricultural heritage every fall with the annual Harvest Festival, featuring traditional Mexican folk dancing, live conjunto music, and a blessing of the crops ceremony that dates back to the town's founding. The festival includes a unique tradition where local farmers donate produce for a community feast, and the mayor presents a 'Golden Grapefruit' award to the family that has farmed in the area the longest, currently held by the Gonzalez family who arrived in 1929.
