AEP Central owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Lytle. As of August 2026, plans we offer in the AEP Central territory average 15.2¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 7.0¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Yes — most Lytle addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Lytle today is 7.0¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

Plan information is presented in a user-friendly format that enables quick and simple comparison of available plans and options.

Electricity in Lytle has been deregulated. As a resident, you have a choice when picking a retail electricity provider (your electricity company), which gives you insight and command over your energy bills.

Deregulation of electricity in the state de-monopolized the electricity market for most of Texas, the city of Lytle included, which introduced massive competition.

As a result, many excellent retail electricity providers compete for your business in Lytle by offering low rates, making it a great time to compare, switch, and lower costs on your power bill.

As many as 60-100 providers compete for your business in Lytle, with hundreds of plans to sort through.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Lytle

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Determining how much energy you will consume monthly is the best way to shop for power in Lytle. Why is this so vital?

The “price per kWh” you see power providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different equation for how your monthly statement is computed, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much energy you use each month.

Unless you use exactly the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than what you saw when you enrolled.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to shop for a power rate.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing options by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the best rate for you.

Even better, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to discover the perfect electricity rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is solved in moments.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and guide you step-by-step to the electricity rate plan that’s best for your home’s consumption.

We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then help you enroll with your chosen power provider without leaving our service.

The bottom line is you should determine your expected or historical usage before picking the right electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate the average energy you will use in any given month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Lytle: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Lytle, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: You can estimate your monthly usage if you can’t obtain a usage history. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or possibly switch plans.

Switching Electricity Companies in Lytle

Switching is good. Market conditions are always in flux, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing electricity company will normally raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you do not act, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don’t have to contact your current provider to cancel (no “break-up call”)
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your electricity supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you decide to switch, your new energy provider will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Lytle is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date within 14 days of your contract expiration without an “early cancellation” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the lowest rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you must collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Lytle Electricity Rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Lytle was founded in 1881 as a railroad town along the International-Great Northern Railroad line between San Antonio and Laredo. The town was named after John T. Lytle, a prominent cattle rancher who owned vast holdings in the area and was instrumental in establishing the cattle drives that passed through this region on their way to northern markets.

RECENT

In 2020, Lytle completed a major downtown revitalization project that transformed its historic Main Street corridor with new sidewalks, period lighting, and landscaping. The project also included the restoration of several 1890s-era buildings that now house local businesses and a community center, bringing new life to the small town's commercial district.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music star George Strait's family has deep roots in the Lytle area, with his father owning a ranch just outside of town for many years. The 'King of Country Music' spent considerable time in the area during his youth, and locals often recall seeing him at community events and local establishments before he became famous.

DID YOU KNOW

Lytle is home to one of the last remaining original International-Great Northern Railroad depots in South Texas, built in 1883. The depot still stands on Main Street and houses a small museum containing artifacts from the town's railroad heyday, including the original telegraph equipment that was used to coordinate cattle shipments and passenger trains through the 1950s.

CULTURAL

Every October, Lytle hosts the annual 'Lytle Founder's Day Festival' which celebrates the town's railroad heritage with live music, barbecue cook-offs, and historical reenactments. The festival features a unique tradition where locals dress in 1880s period costumes and recreate the arrival of the first train to Lytle, complete with a restored vintage locomotive that travels from San Antonio for the celebration.
