Who delivers electricity in Latexo

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Latexo. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes Oncor delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Quick answers

Latexo electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the Oncor territory average 15.3¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.8¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Oncor is Latexo’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; Oncor delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Latexo addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Latexo today is 6.8¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

We currently price 122 plans in Latexo, every one from a PUCT-licensed provider we work with, priced with delivery included.

As a resident or business owner within Latexo, you can choose the electricity provider that best meets your specific needs.

Compare Power is a free consumer service started in 2009 to help residents of Latexo search for their best electricity plan.

These official rates are the same rates you’ll find calling the energy companies or visiting them online.

This allows Texas consumers to avoid hidden markups and marketing gimmicks by comparing plans “apples-to-apples” without spending hours and hours making phone calls or navigating dozens of different websites.

Electricity in Latexo has been deregulated. As an energy customer, you have a choice when selecting a retail electricity provider (your energy provider), which gives you control and power over your energy bill.

Deregulation of energy in the state de-monopolized the electricity market for most of the state, the city of Latexo included, which introduced lots of competition.

As a result, many excellent energy providers compete for your business in Latexo by offering low prices, making it a great time to shop, switch, and save money on your power bill.

As many as 60-100 retail electricity providers compete for your account in Latexo, and hundreds of plans exist to select from.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Latexo

#1 rule: Usage is king!

Knowing how much electricity you will use in a month is the ideal way to find a deal on electricity in Latexo. Why should you care?

The “price per kWh” you see energy providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly statement is determined, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much energy you use each month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to select your power rate.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing options by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your home.

Better yet, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to find the right energy rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers and assisting you step-by-step with the energy plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then help you sign up with your selected energy provider without leaving our website.

The takeaway here is you should determine your expected or historical usage before selecting the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate your average energy in any given month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an electricity company at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Latexo: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Latexo, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool can assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan in minutes through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching Electricity Companies in Latexo

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate every year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing electricity provider will typically raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you do not act, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don’t have to call your current company to cancel (no “break-up call”)
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your power supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you switch, your new electricity provider will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Latexo is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days early from your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” penalty. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the lowest price.

You will want to gather your historical usage for the last 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Latexo Electricity Rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Latexo was founded in 1902 as a railroad town along the International and Great Northern Railroad line that connected Houston to Palestine. The town's unusual name comes from combining 'LA' for Louisiana, 'TEX' for Texas, and 'O' for Oklahoma, representing the three states that many of the original settlers came from during the early 1900s railroad boom.

RECENT

In 2020, Latexo completed a major infrastructure upgrade that brought high-speed fiber internet to this tiny East Texas community of just 264 residents. The project, funded through a rural broadband initiative, transformed the town into one of the most connected small communities in Texas, attracting remote workers and small tech businesses to the area.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music songwriter and producer Billy Sherrill, who wrote hits for Tammy Wynette including 'Stand By Your Man,' spent part of his childhood in Latexo during the 1940s. Sherrill later became one of Nashville's most influential producers, helping create the 'Nashville Sound' that dominated country music in the 1960s and 70s.

DID YOU KNOW

Despite having fewer than 300 residents, Latexo operates one of the smallest municipal airports in Texas, with a grass runway that was originally built in the 1940s for crop dusting operations. The airport still serves local farmers and occasionally hosts vintage aircraft fly-ins, making this tiny town a surprising aviation hub in the Piney Woods region.

CULTURAL

Latexo holds an annual 'Railroad Days' festival every October that celebrates its heritage as a railroad town, complete with model train displays and rides on a restored 1920s handcar. The festival draws visitors from across East Texas who come to experience small-town hospitality and learn about the role of railroads in developing rural Texas communities during the early 20th century.
