As of August 2026, plans we offer in the Oncor territory average 15.3¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.8¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Yes — most Knott addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Knott today is 6.8¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

You have the power to choose your household’s energy company in Knott.

Compare Power is a free consumer service started in 2009 to assist residents of Knott in searching for their best electricity plan.

These official rates are the same rates you’ll find calling the energy companies or visiting their websites.

Plans from several electricity providers are displayed in a standardized grid, making evaluating alternatives simple and fast.

This allows Texas consumers to avoid hidden charges and marketing gimmicks by comparing plans “apples-to-apples” without spending hours and hours calling different energy companies or clicking through dozens of different websites.

Energy in Knott has been deregulated. As a resident, you have a choice when selecting a retail electricity provider (your energy provider), which gives you flexibility and power over your energy bills.

Deregulation of electricity in the state de-monopolized the electricity market for most of the state, the city of Knott included, which introduced lots of competition.

As a result, many excellent power companies compete for your business in Knott by offering low prices, making it a great time to shop, switch, and save money on your electricity statement.

As many as 65+ energy companies compete for your business in Knott, and hundreds of plans exist.

How to find the best energy plan in Knott

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Determining how much energy you will consume monthly is the ideal way to shop for energy in Knott. Why should you care?

The “price per kWh” you see energy companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly bill is computed, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much energy you consume in the month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will pay a “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you ordered.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to choose your electricity rate.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing plans by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your home.

Even better, if you have a year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to discover the right electricity rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you instantly. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans and guide you step-by-step to the energy rate plan that’s best for your household’s consumption.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then assist you in signing up with your selected power provider without leaving our website.

The takeaway here is you must know your expected or historical usage before picking the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate your average energy in any given month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an electricity company at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Knott: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Knott, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: You can estimate your monthly usage if you can’t obtain a usage history. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan in minutes through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching Electricity Companies in Knott

Switching is good. Market conditions are always in flux, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate every year when your contract is about to expire.

Your existing electricity company will normally raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don’t have to contact your current company to cancel (no “break-up call”)
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your power supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you switch, your new electricity provider will handle everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Knott is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date within 14 days of your contract expiration without an “early cancellation” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching companies may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the lowest rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you must collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Knott Electricity Rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Knott was established in 1908 as a railroad stop on the Texas and Pacific Railway, named after Walter Knott, a railroad official who helped secure the town's location. The community grew around cotton farming and cattle ranching, serving as a vital shipping point for agricultural products from the surrounding Permian Basin region during the early 20th century.

RECENT

In 2019, Knott experienced a minor population boom due to renewed oil activity in the Permian Basin, with several new drilling operations opening within a 10-mile radius of the town. This has brought new jobs and economic activity to the area, reversing decades of population decline that had reduced the town to fewer than 600 residents.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music singer and songwriter Red Steagall, known as the 'Cowboy Poet of Texas' and official Cowboy Poet of Texas since 1991, spent part of his childhood in the Knott area. Steagall has written songs for major artists including Ray Price and has been inducted into the Western Music Hall of Fame for his contributions to cowboy and western music.

DID YOU KNOW

Knott is home to one of the last remaining original Texas and Pacific Railway water towers in West Texas, built in 1910 and still standing today. The 40-foot wooden structure was essential for steam locomotives crossing the desert, and railroad crews would stop specifically in Knott to refill their engines' water supplies for the long journey across the arid landscape.

CULTURAL

Every October, Knott hosts the annual 'Cotton Festival' celebrating the town's agricultural heritage, featuring antique tractor displays and cotton picking demonstrations using equipment from the 1940s and 1950s. Local families have passed down these vintage machines through generations, and the festival draws visitors from across West Texas who come to see farming methods that built the region's economy.
