Who delivers electricity in Hutto

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Hutto. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes Oncor delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Quick answers

Hutto electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the Oncor territory average 15.3¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.8¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Oncor is Hutto’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; Oncor delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Hutto addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Hutto today is 6.8¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

We currently price 122 plans in Hutto, every one from a PUCT-licensed provider we work with, priced with delivery included.

How to find the best energy plan in Hutto

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Knowing how much energy you will consume each month is the best way to shop for energy in Hutto. Why is this important?

The rate you see electricity companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly statement is calculated, and your monthly bill will change according to how much energy you use in a month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you ordered.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to pick your electricity company.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing plans by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the best rate for you.

Better still, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter and is the best way to determine the right electricity rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you instantly. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now solved in a few seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans and guide you step-by-step to the electricity plan that’s best for your household’s usage.

We clarify the details, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to expect on your bill.

We then help you sign up with your selected energy provider without leaving our website.

The bottom line is you should understand your expected or historical usage before picking the right energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you recently purchased a home or business, or you cannot obtain 12 months of usage history, you can always estimate the average amount of energy that you will use in any given month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Hutto: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Hutto, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool can assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Hutto

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower price every year when your contract is about to expire.

Your existing energy company will normally raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new energy company will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Hutto is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days early from your current contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” fee. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the lowest price.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Hutto electricity rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Hutto was founded in 1876 when James Emory Hutto donated land to the International-Great Northern Railroad for a depot and town site. The town grew rapidly as a railroad stop between Austin and Taylor, becoming a vital shipping point for cotton and other agricultural products from the fertile Blackland Prairie region of Central Texas.

RECENT

Between 2010 and 2020, Hutto experienced explosive growth of over 100%, making it one of the fastest-growing cities in Texas and the entire United States. The city has transformed from a small railroad town of about 14,000 residents to a thriving suburb of nearly 30,000, driven largely by Austin's tech boom and families seeking affordable housing with excellent schools.

OTHER

FAMOUS PEOPLE/EVENTS: Hutto is the hometown of NFL quarterback Drew Brees' wife, Brittany Brees, who graduated from Hutto High School in 1999. The city also gained national attention when the Hutto High School Hippos football team made deep playoff runs in the 2000s, bringing recognition to this small Texas town's unusual mascot choice.

DID YOU KNOW

Hutto is home to the only high school in America with a hippo as its mascot, complete with a live hippo statue downtown and 'Henrietta the Hippo' as the beloved school symbol. The unusual mascot choice dates back to 1915 when students voted between several options, and somehow the exotic African mammal won out over more traditional Texas animals like longhorns or eagles.

CULTURAL

Every August, Hutto hosts the annual 'Olde Tyme Days' festival that celebrates the city's railroad heritage with a parade down historic Front Street, live music, and vendors selling everything from kettle corn to handmade crafts. The festival features the famous 'Hippo Stomp' dance competition and attracts thousands of visitors who come to experience small-town Texas charm just 20 minutes from downtown Austin.
