Who delivers electricity in Hudson

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Hudson. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Quick answers

Hudson electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the Oncor territory average 15.3¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.8¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Oncor is Hudson’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; Oncor delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Hudson addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Hudson today is 6.8¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

We currently price 122 plans in Hudson, every one from a PUCT-licensed provider we work with, priced with delivery included.

How to find the best energy plan in Hudson

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Determining the amount of energy you will use in a month is the best way to find a deal on power in Hudson. Why is this so vital?

You see energy companies advertising the “price per kWh” for an exact monthly usage (usually 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly bill is determined, and your monthly bill will change according to how much energy you use each month.

Unless you match the advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you ordered.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to choose your energy plan.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing plans by total monthly cost, is the best way to shop for the best rate for your home.

Even better, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to find the ideal energy plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you instantly. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in moments.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans and assisting you step-by-step with the energy plan that’s best for your household’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then help you in signing up with your chosen energy provider without ever having to leave our service.

The takeaway here is you must determine your expected or historical usage before choosing the right energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to find the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Hudson: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Hudson, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan in minutes through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Hudson

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract expires.

Your existing energy provider will typically raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity company will take care of everything for you, including terminating service with your previous provider.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Hudson is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early termination” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching companies may outweigh the fee of breaking your existing contract.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the best rate.

You will want to gather your past usage for the last 12 months to determine your household’s best plan with the lowest rate.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Hudson was founded in 1872 as a railroad town along the Houston, East and West Texas Railway, originally serving as a timber shipping point during the East Texas lumber boom. The town was named after a railroad official and quickly became a vital stop for transporting the massive pine and hardwood logs that were harvested from the surrounding Angelina National Forest region.

RECENT

In 2020, Hudson completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street and added new sidewalks, period lighting, and landscaping. The project also included the installation of a new city park with a pavilion and walking trails, transforming the small downtown area into a charming gathering place for residents and visitors.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Hudson is the hometown of country music songwriter and producer Billy Sherrill, who co-wrote classics like 'Stand By Your Man' for Tammy Wynette and produced hits for George Jones and Charlie Rich. Sherrill's work in the 1960s and 70s helped define the 'Nashville Sound' and earned him induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010.

DID YOU KNOW

Hudson sits on one of the largest underground salt domes in East Texas, which was discovered in the 1930s and led to a brief salt mining boom that nearly doubled the town's population overnight. The salt dome extends over 2 miles underground and is still considered one of the purest salt deposits in the region, though mining operations ceased in the 1960s when transportation costs became prohibitive.

CULTURAL

Every October, Hudson hosts the annual 'Piney Woods Heritage Festival' that celebrates the town's logging history with chainsaw carving competitions, antique sawmill demonstrations, and traditional East Texas barbecue. The festival draws visitors from across the region who come to see craftsmen create intricate sculptures from pine logs using only chainsaws, continuing a tradition that dates back to the area's timber industry roots.
