Who delivers electricity in Holland

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Holland. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes Oncor delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Quick answers

Holland electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the Oncor territory average 15.3¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.8¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Oncor is Holland’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; Oncor delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Holland addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Holland today is 6.8¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

We currently price 122 plans in Holland, every one from a PUCT-licensed provider we work with, priced with delivery included.

As a resident or business owner within Holland, you have the power to choose the electricity provider that best meets your specific needs.

Compare Power is a free consumer service started in 2009 to help residents of Holland search for their lowest-rate energy plan.

These official rates are the identical rates you’ll find contacting the energy providers or visiting their websites.

Offers from many different electricity companies are shown in a convenient layout that makes comparing your options simple and quick.

This helps Texas energy customers avoid hidden markups and marketing gimmicks by comparing plans “apples-to-apples” without wasting hours and hours calling different energy providers or clicking around on dozens of online sites.

Energy in Holland is deregulated. As a resident, you can choose a retail electricity provider (your electricity provider), which gives you insight and command over your energy bill.

Deregulation of energy in the state de-monopolized the energy market for most of the state, the city of Holland included, which introduced massive competition.

As a result, many excellent power providers compete for your business in Holland by offering low prices, making it a great time to shop, switch, and lower costs on your electricity statement.

As many as 60-100 providers compete for your account in Holland, with hundreds of plans.

How to find the best energy plan in Holland

#1 rule: Usage is king!

Determining the amount of energy you will use each month is the ideal way to shop for electricity in Holland. Why does this matter?

The rate you see power companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly statement is calculated, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much energy you use in a month.

Unless you use the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you signed up.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to pick your power rate.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing options by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.

Better still, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to find the perfect electricity rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you in an instant. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now done in moments.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and guiding you to the best energy plan for your home’s consumption.

We clarify the details, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then assist you in enrolling with your chosen electricity provider without ever having to leave our website.

The bottom line is you must determine your expected or historical usage before choosing the right electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Holland: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Holland, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan in minutes through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Holland

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is vital to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract expires.

Your existing electricity provider will generally raise your energy rate once your term expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you make the switch, your new energy company will handle everything for you, including terminating service with your previous company.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Holland is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your current contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching companies may outweigh the fee of breaking your existing contract.

If you are unsure, email us your latest energy bill, and one of our team members will respond promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the lowest price.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Holland was founded in 1881 when the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad built through the area, originally named after early settler Dove Holland who donated land for the railroad depot. The town quickly became a shipping point for cotton and corn from the surrounding Blackland Prairie, with the railroad bringing prosperity to this small Bell County community during the late 19th century.

RECENT

In 2020, Holland completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Travis Street and added new sidewalks and period lighting. The project was funded through a combination of state grants and local fundraising efforts, breathing new life into the small town's commercial district and attracting new businesses to the area.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Holland was the childhood home of country music songwriter Red Lane, who wrote numerous hits for Merle Haggard including 'The Fugitive' and 'I Think I'll Just Stay Here and Drink.' Lane grew up on a farm outside Holland in the 1940s and often credited his small-town Texas upbringing for inspiring his authentic country music lyrics that resonated with working-class audiences.

DID YOU KNOW

Holland is home to one of the last remaining original Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad depots in Central Texas, built in 1882 and still standing today. The depot served as the town's lifeline for nearly 80 years, and local legend claims that famous outlaw Sam Bass once hid in the depot's freight room while evading Texas Rangers in 1878, three years before the building was even constructed.

CULTURAL

Every October, Holland hosts the annual Corn Festival, a tradition that began in 1975 to celebrate the town's agricultural heritage and the harvest season. The festival features a corn maze made from locally grown corn, corn eating contests, and the crowning of the Corn Queen, drawing visitors from across Bell County to this tiny town that transforms into a bustling celebration of rural Texas life.
