Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

How to find the best energy plan in Gregory

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Discovering how much electricity you will consume each month is the best way to find a deal on energy in Gregory. Why does this matter?

You see energy providers advertising the “price per kWh” for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly statement is determined, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much electricity you consume in the month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to select your power company.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing rates by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your household.

Better yet, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to discover the right energy rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now solved in a few seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans to guide you to the best electricity rate plan for your household’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to expect on your monthly bill.

We then help you order your plan with your chosen electricity company without ever having to leave our service.

The takeaway here is you must understand your expected or historical usage before choosing the right electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to find the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Gregory: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Gregory, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan in minutes through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Gregory

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is important to shop for a lower price each year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing energy provider will typically raise your energy rate once your term expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you switch, your new electricity company will handle everything for you, including terminating service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Gregory is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching companies may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the lowest price.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Gregory was founded in 1934 as a company town by the Celanese Corporation to house workers for their massive chemical plant. The entire city was planned and built from scratch, with uniform houses arranged in neat rows, making it one of the last true company towns established in Texas during the Great Depression era.

RECENT

In 2017, Gregory faced its greatest challenge when Hurricane Harvey brought devastating storm surge and flooding that damaged over 80% of the city's homes and businesses. The community's remarkable recovery effort, supported by federal disaster relief and volunteer organizations, has transformed the small town with new flood-resistant construction and improved infrastructure.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Gregory gained national attention in the 1940s and 1950s as the home of several Celanese Corporation executives who became prominent figures in the chemical industry. The town also produced several notable high school football players who went on to play for major Texas universities, earning Gregory recognition despite its small size.

DID YOU KNOW

Gregory was one of the first fully air-conditioned towns in Texas, with every company-built house equipped with central air conditioning in 1934. This was revolutionary for the time, as most Texas homes wouldn't have air conditioning for another 20-30 years, making Gregory a remarkably comfortable place to live during the scorching South Texas summers.

CULTURAL

Gregory maintains its unique company town character with many of the original 1930s houses still standing and occupied by families whose grandparents were among the first Celanese workers. The annual Gregory Founder's Day celebration recreates the town's 1930s atmosphere, complete with period costumes and vintage car displays, celebrating its distinctive planned community heritage.
