Who delivers electricity in Grapeland

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Grapeland. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Yes — most Grapeland addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

How to find the best energy plan in Grapeland

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Determining the amount of electricity you will use month-to-month is the best way to shop for power in Grapeland. Why does this matter?

The rate you see electricity companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly bill is determined, and your monthly bill will change according to how much power you consume each month.

Unless you match the advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than what you saw when you signed up.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to choose your electricity company.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing rates by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.

Better still, if you have 12 months of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to determine your home’s ideal electricity rate plan.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now done in a few moments.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers and assisting you step-by-step with the electricity plan that’s best for your household’s usage.

We clarify the details, disclosing the various fees, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to expect on your bill.

We then assist you in signing up with your selected power provider without leaving our website.

The takeaway here is you must determine your expected or historical usage before ordering the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Grapeland: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Grapeland, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan in minutes through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Grapeland

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly in flux, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract expires.

Your existing energy company will typically raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you make the switch, your new electricity company will handle everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Grapeland is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early termination” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you are unsure, email us your latest energy bill, and one of our team members will get back to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the best rate.

You will want to gather your historical usage for the past 12 months to determine your household’s best plan with the lowest rate.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Grapeland was founded in 1872 when the International and Great Northern Railroad came through the area, originally named for the wild mustang grapes that grew abundantly in the surrounding forests. The town became a major timber shipping point during the East Texas lumber boom of the late 1800s, with several sawmills operating around the clock to process the vast pine forests of Houston County.

RECENT

In 2020, Grapeland completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street and added new sidewalks, period lighting, and landscaping. The project was funded through a combination of state grants and local fundraising efforts, bringing new businesses and visitors to the small town's historic core.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Grapeland is the hometown of Johnny Mathis, the legendary crooner known for hits like 'Chances Are' and 'It's Not for Me to Say.' Born here in 1935, Mathis moved to California as a child but has always credited his East Texas roots for his musical foundation, returning to perform benefit concerts for the community throughout his career.

DID YOU KNOW

Grapeland is home to one of the last remaining drive-in movie theaters in East Texas, the Grapeland Drive-In, which has been operating continuously since 1950. The theater still uses the original 1940s projection equipment and shows double features every weekend, making it a pilgrimage site for vintage movie enthusiasts from across the region.

CULTURAL

Every October, Grapeland hosts the annual GrapeFest celebration, which draws thousands of visitors for grape stomping competitions, live music, and local craft vendors. The festival celebrates the town's namesake wild grapes and features a unique tradition where the mayor officially opens the festivities by stomping the first batch of grapes in a giant wooden barrel that's been used for over 30 years.
