Who delivers electricity in Granger

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Granger. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes Oncor delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Quick answers

Granger electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the Oncor territory average 15.3¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.8¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Oncor is Granger’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; Oncor delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Granger addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Granger today is 6.8¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

We currently price 122 plans in Granger, every one from a PUCT-licensed provider we work with, priced with delivery included.

As many as 65+ providers compete for your account in Granger, and hundreds of plans exist.

How to find the best energy plan in Granger

#1 rule: Usage is king!

Knowing the amount of energy you will consume monthly is the ideal way to find a deal on electricity in Granger. Why does this matter?

You see energy companies advertising the “price per kWh” for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly statement is calculated, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much electricity you use each month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you enrolled.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to pick your electricity company.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing rates by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.

Better yet, if you have a year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to determine the perfect energy rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in a few seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans and assisting you step-by-step with the energy plan that’s best for your home’s consumption.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then help you sign up with your chosen energy provider without leaving our service.

The bottom line is you should understand your expected or historical usage before picking the right electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you recently purchased a home or business, or you cannot obtain 12 months of usage history, you can always estimate the average amount of energy that you will use in any given month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly picking the first plan you see advertised by an energy provider at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Granger: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Granger, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool can assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when renewing your existing plan or possibly switching plans.

Switching electricity companies in Granger

Switching is good. Market conditions are always in flux, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate every year when your contract is about to expire.

Your existing energy company will normally raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity company will handle everything for you, including terminating service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Granger is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your current contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the cheapest rate.

You will want to gather your historical usage for the past 12 months to determine your household’s best plan with the lowest rate.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Granger was founded in 1882 as a railroad town along the International and Great Northern Railroad line. The town was named after Gordon Granger, a Union general during the Civil War who later issued General Order No. 3 in Galveston, which announced the emancipation of enslaved people in Texas on June 19, 1865, creating what we now celebrate as Juneteenth.

RECENT

In 2019, Granger completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Davilla Street, the town's main thoroughfare. The project included new sidewalks, period-appropriate street lighting, and facade improvements that have attracted new businesses and helped preserve the town's 19th-century character.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music legend Lyle Lovett grew up on a horse farm just outside Granger and has frequently referenced his Williamson County roots in interviews and songs. His family's century-old farm near Granger served as inspiration for many of his early compositions, and he still maintains strong ties to the community where he learned to ride horses and developed his distinctive musical style.

DID YOU KNOW

Granger is home to one of the last remaining original International and Great Northern Railroad depots in Texas, built in 1882 and still standing in its original location. The depot now serves as a museum and community center, and railroad enthusiasts travel from across the country to see this remarkably preserved example of 19th-century railroad architecture that still contains original ticket windows and waiting room benches.

CULTURAL

Every September, Granger hosts the annual 'Granger City Limits Music Festival,' a three-day event that transforms the tiny town into a major music destination featuring both local Texas artists and nationally known performers. The festival draws over 10,000 visitors to this community of fewer than 1,500 residents, creating a unique atmosphere where attendees can walk from stage to stage in minutes while enjoying authentic small-town Texas hospitality.
