Who delivers electricity in Grandfalls

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Grandfalls. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. As of August 2026, plans we offer in the Oncor territory average 15.3¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.8¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Yes — most Grandfalls addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

How to find the best energy plan in Grandfalls

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Determining how much energy you will use monthly is the ideal way to find a deal on power in Grandfalls. Why does this matter?

The rate you see power providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly bill is computed, and your monthly bill will change according to how much power you use in a month.

Unless you use exactly the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you ordered.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to select your energy company.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing rates with the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.

Better still, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to determine the right electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you instantly. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in a few seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans and assisting you step-by-step with the best electricity plan for your home’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then help you sign up with your selected power provider without leaving our service.

The bottom line is you must understand your expected or historical usage before picking the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Grandfalls: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Grandfalls, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or possibly switch plans.

Switching electricity companies in Grandfalls

Switching is good. Market conditions are always in flux, so it is important to shop for a lower rate every year when your contract is about to expire.

Your existing electricity company will normally raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity provider will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Grandfalls is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days early from your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” fee. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the lowest price.

You will want to gather your past usage for the last 12 months to determine your household’s best plan with the lowest rate.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Grandfalls was established in 1926 as a railroad town along the Texas and Pacific Railway, named for the nearby natural limestone formations that created small waterfalls during rare desert rains. The town served as a crucial water stop for steam locomotives crossing the Chihuahuan Desert, with the railroad company building large water tanks that became the community's first major infrastructure.

RECENT

In 2019, Grandfalls experienced a significant economic boost when several major oil companies began new drilling operations in the Permian Basin surrounding the town. The renewed oil activity has brought new jobs and increased property values, reversing decades of population decline and breathing new life into local businesses along Main Street.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music singer and songwriter Red Steagall, known as the 'Cowboy Poet of Texas,' spent part of his childhood in Grandfalls during the 1940s. Steagall later became famous for his Western swing music and was inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame, often crediting his West Texas upbringing for inspiring his authentic cowboy songs and poetry.

DID YOU KNOW

Grandfalls is home to one of the smallest high school football stadiums in Texas that still hosts official UIL games, with bleachers that seat exactly 247 people. Despite its tiny size, the Grandfalls-Royalty Cowboys have won multiple district championships, and the entire town of 313 people regularly packs the stadium beyond capacity, with fans bringing lawn chairs and standing along the fence line to cheer on their team.

CULTURAL

Every October, Grandfalls hosts the 'Desert Days Festival,' a unique celebration that combines traditional West Texas barbecue with stargazing events made possible by the town's exceptionally dark skies. The festival attracts amateur astronomers from across the Southwest who come to view the Milky Way in one of the least light-polluted areas of Texas, creating an unusual blend of cowboy culture and cosmic wonder that defines this tiny desert community.
