Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

How to find the best energy plan in Flower Mound

#1 rule: Usage is key!

Determining the amount of energy you will consume monthly is the ideal way to find a deal on electricity in Flower Mound. Why should you care?

You see energy companies advertising the “price per kWh” for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly bill is computed, and your monthly bill will change according to how much power you use each month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than what you saw when you enrolled.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to pick your electricity company.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing options by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your home.

Even better, if you have 12 months of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to discover the right energy plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you instantly. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now done in a few seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and navigating you step-by-step to the energy plan that’s best for your household’s usage.

We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to expect on your monthly bill.

We then help you order your plan with your chosen energy company without leaving our website.

The takeaway here is you should understand your expected or historical usage before selecting the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an electricity company at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Flower Mound: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Flower Mound, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when renewing your existing plan or possibly switching plans.

Switching electricity companies in Flower Mound

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing electricity provider will normally raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new energy company will handle everything for you, including canceling service with your previous provider.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Flower Mound is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early termination” penalty. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the best rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Flower Mound was named after a 12.5-acre hill covered in wildflowers that served as a landmark for early settlers and Native American tribes in the 1840s. The natural mound, which rises about 50 feet above the surrounding prairie, was so distinctive that it appeared on early surveyor maps and guided travelers through the Cross Timbers region of North Texas.

RECENT

In 2020, Flower Mound completed construction of the $32 million Flower Mound River Walk, a mixed-use development featuring restaurants, shops, and luxury apartments along the Elm Fork of the Trinity River. The project transformed a previously undeveloped area into the town's new downtown district and has become a major attraction for both residents and visitors from across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Professional golfer Jordan Spieth, who won the Masters Tournament in 2015 and became the youngest golfer since Tiger Woods to win multiple majors, grew up in Flower Mound and attended Jesuit College Preparatory School in nearby Dallas. Spieth learned to play golf at the Brookhaven Country Club and often credits his North Texas upbringing for keeping him grounded despite his international success.

DID YOU KNOW

Flower Mound is home to one of the largest populations of the endangered Smallmouth Salamander in Texas, which lives exclusively in the limestone caves beneath the town. The salamanders are so rare that the city has designated several areas as protected habitat, and new construction projects must undergo special environmental reviews to ensure these tiny amphibians aren't disturbed in their underground homes.

CULTURAL

Every spring since 1999, Flower Mound hosts the Pumpkinfest celebration, which despite its name, is actually a fall festival that draws over 30,000 visitors annually to celebrate the town's agricultural heritage. The festival features a massive pumpkin patch, live music, and the famous 'Pumpkin 1000' race where participants roll giant pumpkins down the original flower-covered mound that gave the town its name.
