Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

Deregulation of energy in Texas de-monopolized the energy market for most of the state, the city of Escobares included, which introduced massive competition.

How to find the best energy plan in Escobares

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Determining how much electricity you will consume in a month is the best way to shop for electricity in Escobares. Why is this important?

The “price per kWh” you see electricity companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 1000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly statement is computed, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much energy you consume each month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to choose your power company.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing options by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.

Even better, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to find the perfect energy plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you in an instant. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now done in seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans and navigating you step-by-step to the energy rate plan that’s best for your household’s consumption.

We clarify the details, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then help you sign up with your selected electricity provider without ever leaving our service.

The takeaway here is you must determine your expected or historical usage before selecting the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly picking the first plan you see advertised by an electricity company at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Escobares: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Escobares, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when renewing your existing plan or possibly switching plans.

Switching electricity companies in Escobares

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is important to shop for a lower price every year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing electricity company will typically raise your energy rate once your term expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you switch, your new energy company will handle everything, including terminating service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Escobares is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days early from your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the cheapest rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch, and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Escobares was established in the 1750s as part of a Spanish land grant to José Vásquez Borrego, making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in Texas. The town was named after the Escobar family, early Spanish colonists who received vast tracts of land along the Rio Grande, and it served as a crucial river crossing point for trade between Mexico and the emerging Texas territory.

RECENT

In 2020, Escobares gained national attention when it became one of the smallest communities in Texas to receive federal funding for border infrastructure improvements. The $2.3 million project upgraded the town's water treatment facilities and improved road access, bringing modern amenities to this historic riverside community for the first time in decades.

OTHER

FAMOUS PEOPLE/EVENTS: Escobares was the childhood home of Jovita Idar, a pioneering Mexican-American journalist and civil rights activist born in nearby Laredo in 1885. Idar spent summers with relatives in Escobares, where she first witnessed the harsh conditions faced by border communities, inspiring her later work founding La Liga Femenil Mexicanista and advocating for Mexican-American rights in the early 1900s.

DID YOU KNOW

Escobares sits on what archaeologists believe to be one of the oldest river crossing points on the Rio Grande, with evidence of human habitation dating back over 8,000 years. Spanish conquistadors used the same shallow crossing that Native American tribes had utilized for millennia, and today you can still see the worn stone steps carved into the riverbank that guided travelers across the Rio Grande for centuries.

OTHER

CULTURAL/UNIQUE: Every September, Escobares hosts the 'Cruce del Rio' festival, where residents recreate the historic river crossings of their ancestors using traditional wooden boats called 'chalanas.' The celebration includes families from both sides of the border, as many Escobares residents have relatives in the Mexican town of Camargo directly across the river, maintaining family connections that predate the establishment of the international border by over a century.
