Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

Deregulation of energy in the state de-monopolized the electricity market for the majority of Texas, the city of Elsa included, which introduced massive competition.

As a result, many excellent power providers compete for your business in Elsa by offering low prices, making it a great time to compare, switch, and save costs on your electricity statement.

As many as 100+ retail electricity providers compete for your account in Elsa, and there are hundreds of plans to select from.

How to find the best energy plan in Elsa

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Knowing the amount of electricity you will use month-to-month is the best way to find a deal on electricity in Elsa. Why is this important?

The rate you see energy providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 1000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly bill is determined, and your monthly bill will change according to how much electricity you consume in a month.

Unless you use the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you signed up.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to shop for a power rate.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the best rate for your home.

Even better, if you have 12 months of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to discover the right energy plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you instantly. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now solved in seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers and navigating you step-by-step to the energy rate plan that’s best for your household’s consumption.

We clarify the details, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to expect on your bill.

We then help you enroll with your selected energy company without leaving our service.

The bottom line is you should understand your expected or historical usage before picking the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate the average energy you will use in any given month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Elsa: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Elsa, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Elsa

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower price every year when your contract expires.

Your existing energy provider will normally raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity provider will handle everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Elsa is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early cancellation” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching companies may outweigh the fee of breaking your existing contract.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the cheapest price.

You will want to find your historical usage for the past 12 months to determine your household’s best plan with the lowest rate.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Elsa was founded in 1927 and named after Elsa Dowe, the daughter of a land developer who helped establish the town during the Rio Grande Valley's agricultural boom. The city was strategically located along the Missouri Pacific Railroad line, making it a crucial shipping point for the region's growing citrus and vegetable farming industry that attracted thousands of settlers to South Texas.

RECENT

In 2020, Elsa completed a major downtown revitalization project that included new LED streetlighting, sidewalk improvements, and facade renovations for historic buildings along Main Street. The $2.3 million project was funded through a combination of federal grants and local bonds, transforming the city's core business district and attracting several new small businesses to the area.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Elsa is the hometown of Freddy Fender (born Baldemar Huerta), the Grammy-winning country and Tejano music star who achieved crossover success in the 1970s with hits like 'Before the Next Teardrop Falls' and 'Wasted Days and Wasted Nights.' Fender, who passed away in 2006, is remembered as one of the first Latino artists to achieve mainstream success in country music, and the city honors his legacy with an annual music festival.

DID YOU KNOW

Elsa holds the unusual distinction of being one of the few Texas cities that was completely planned and built by a single development company in less than two years. The Missouri Pacific Land Company surveyed, platted, and constructed the entire original townsite between 1926 and 1928, including streets, utilities, and the first commercial buildings, making it one of the most rapidly developed communities in the Rio Grande Valley during the 1920s land boom.

CULTURAL

Elsa celebrates its agricultural heritage every spring with the annual Citrus Festival, featuring traditional Mexican folk dancing, live Tejano music, and competitions for the best homemade salsa and barbacoa. The festival draws thousands of visitors from across South Texas and showcases the city's deep cultural ties to both Mexican traditions and Texas farming, with many families having worked the same citrus groves for three or four generations.
