Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

How to find the best energy plan in El Campo

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Discovering how much energy you will consume in a month is the ideal way to find a deal on power in El Campo. Why is this important?

The rate you see power companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly bill is calculated, and your monthly bill will change according to how much electricity you use in the month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to shop for an electricity provider.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing plans by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.

Better yet, if you have 12 months of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to determine the right electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now solved in a few moments.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans and navigating you step-by-step to the electricity plan that’s best for your household’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then assist you in enrolling with your selected power company without leaving our service.

The takeaway here is you should understand your expected or historical usage before choosing the right energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate the average energy you will use in any given month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to El Campo: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in El Campo, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when renewing your existing plan or possibly switching plans.

Switching electricity companies in El Campo

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly in flux, so it is essential to shop for a lower price each year when your contract expires.

Your existing electricity company will typically raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity provider will handle everything for you, including terminating service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in El Campo is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” penalty. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the best rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch, and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

HISTORICAL

El Campo was founded in 1882 as a railroad town along the New York, Texas and Mexican Railway, with its name meaning 'the camp' in Spanish, referring to the temporary camps established by railroad workers. The town quickly became a major shipping point for cattle and cotton from the surrounding prairie lands, establishing its role as an agricultural hub in the coastal plains of Texas.

RECENT

In 2020, El Campo completed a major downtown revitalization project that transformed several blocks of the historic business district with new sidewalks, period lighting, and landscaping. The $2.3 million project also included the restoration of several 1920s-era buildings and has attracted new restaurants and shops to the area, breathing new life into the city center.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

El Campo is the birthplace of NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Y.A. Tittle, who was born here in 1926 and went on to play for the San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants. Tittle, known for his strong arm and leadership, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971 and remains one of the most celebrated athletes to come from this small Texas town.

DID YOU KNOW

El Campo is home to one of the largest rice dryers in the world, operated by the El Campo Rice Milling Company since 1942. The facility can process over 2 million bushels of rice annually and its distinctive grain elevators can be seen for miles across the flat coastal prairie, making it a landmark that has guided travelers for decades.

CULTURAL

El Campo hosts the annual Rice Festival every October, celebrating the city's status as the 'Rice Capital of Texas' with a tradition dating back to 1956. The festival features a rice cooking contest, parade with elaborate floats, carnival rides, and the crowning of the Rice Queen, drawing thousands of visitors who come to celebrate the grain that built the local economy and continues to sustain the community today.
