Yes — most Edna addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

These official rates are the identical rates you’ll find contacting the energy companies or visiting them online.

Energy in Edna is deregulated. As a resident, you can choose a retail electricity provider (your electricity provider), which gives you flexibility and power over your energy bill.

Deregulation of energy in Texas de-monopolized the electricity market for most of the state, the city of Edna included, which introduced massive competition.

As a result, many excellent retail electricity providers compete for your business in Edna by offering low prices, making it a great time to compare, switch, and save on your power bill.

As many as 60-100 energy companies compete for your business in Edna, with hundreds of plans to sort through.

How to find the best energy plan in Edna

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Knowing the amount of energy you will use each month is the ideal way to shop for energy in Edna. Why is this so vital?

The “price per kWh” you see electricity companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly bill is calculated, and your monthly bill will change according to how much power you consume each month.

Unless you use exactly the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you ordered.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to pick your energy plan.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing rates by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the best rate for your home.

Even better, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to discover the right electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you in an instant. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in moments.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans, and guide you step-by-step to the energy rate plan that’s best for your household’s consumption.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then assist you in enrolling with your chosen energy provider without ever having to leave our website.

The takeaway here is you must determine your expected or historical usage before choosing the right energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you recently purchased a home or business, or you cannot obtain 12 months of usage history, you can always estimate the average amount of energy that you will use in any given month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Edna: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Edna, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Edna

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower price every year when your contract expires.

Your existing energy company will normally raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new energy company will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Edna is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days before your current contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” fee. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee of breaking your existing contract.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the best rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch, and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Edna was founded in 1882 when the New York, Texas and Mexican Railway came through Jackson County, and the town was named after the daughter of Count Joseph Telfener, an Italian financier who funded the railroad construction. The railroad brought prosperity to the area, transforming it from cattle ranching country into a thriving agricultural and oil community that became the Jackson County seat in 1883.

RECENT

In 2019, Edna completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street and created the new Brackenridge Park pavilion. The $2.3 million investment has attracted new businesses and restaurants to the downtown core, reversing decades of economic decline and earning recognition from the Texas Historical Commission.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music legend George Strait spent part of his childhood in nearby Pearsall but frequently visited Edna, where his family had deep roots in Jackson County's ranching community. The 'King of Country Music' has often credited his South Texas upbringing, including time around Edna, for inspiring his authentic cowboy persona and traditional country sound that has sold over 100 million records worldwide.

DID YOU KNOW

Edna is home to one of Texas's most unusual geological features - a natural gas seep that has been burning continuously since it was accidentally ignited by lightning in 1935. Known locally as the 'Eternal Flame of Jackson County,' this small but persistent fire has become a quirky roadside attraction, burning through multiple hurricanes and even surviving a direct hit from Hurricane Harvey in 2017.

CULTURAL

Every October, Edna hosts the Jackson County Fair and PRCA Rodeo, which has been running continuously since 1954 and features one of the largest livestock shows in South Texas. The event draws over 15,000 visitors annually and includes traditional competitions like mutton busting for kids, chuck wagon cooking contests, and a famous 'Cowboy Church' service held in the rodeo arena on Sunday morning.
