Yes — most Eagle Pass addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Eagle Pass today is 7.0¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

How to find the best energy plan in Eagle Pass

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Discovering the amount of electricity you will consume monthly is the ideal way to find a deal on energy in Eagle Pass. Why is this so vital?

The “price per kWh” you see electricity providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly statement is determined, and your monthly bill will change according to how much electricity you use each month.

Unless you use exactly the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you enrolled.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to pick your power rate.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing rates by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your home.

Better still, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to determine your home’s ideal electricity rate plan.

Compare Power does all this math for you instantly. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now done in just moments.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers, and guide you step-by-step to the energy rate plan that’s best for your home’s consumption.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to expect on your bill.

We then assist you in signing up with your chosen electricity company without ever having to leave our website.

The takeaway here is you must determine your expected or historical usage before choosing the right electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate the average energy you will use in any given month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an electricity provider at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Eagle Pass: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Eagle Pass, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Eagle Pass

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is important to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract is about to expire.

Your existing energy provider will normally raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity company will take care of everything for you, including terminating service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Eagle Pass is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your current contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” fee. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee of breaking your existing contract.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the cheapest rate.

You will want to find your past usage for the last 12 months to determine your household’s best plan with the lowest rate.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Eagle Pass was founded in 1849 as a military outpost and trading center along the Rio Grande, taking its name from the natural pass through the hills where eagles were commonly seen soaring overhead. The city became a crucial crossing point during the Mexican-American War and later served as a major trade route between Texas and Mexico, establishing its role as one of the most important border cities in the American Southwest.

RECENT

In 2021, Eagle Pass became the center of national attention when it experienced one of the largest surges of migrant crossings in U.S. history, with over 15,000 people camping under the Del Rio International Bridge. The city's infrastructure and resources were stretched to capacity as federal agencies coordinated the largest humanitarian response effort ever seen at the Texas-Mexico border.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Eagle Pass is the birthplace of Dolph Briscoe Jr., who served as the 41st Governor of Texas from 1973 to 1979. Briscoe was one of the wealthiest governors in Texas history, owning over 640,000 acres of ranch land, and he's remembered for his conservative fiscal policies and efforts to reform state government during the post-Watergate era.

DID YOU KNOW

Eagle Pass is home to the only municipal golf course in the United States that spans two countries - the Camino Real Golf Course has holes on both the American and Mexican sides of the Rio Grande. Players literally drive golf carts across an international border during their round, making it necessary to carry passports while playing golf, though the course has since been modified due to security concerns.

CULTURAL

Eagle Pass hosts the annual Cinco de Mayo Festival that draws over 100,000 visitors from both sides of the border, making it one of the largest binational celebrations in North America. The festival features a unique tradition where the mayors of Eagle Pass and its sister city Piedras Negras, Mexico, ceremonially embrace at the center of the international bridge, symbolizing the deep cultural and economic ties that bind these border communities together.
