Yes — most Driscoll addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

As many as 65+ retail electricity providers compete for your business in Driscoll, with hundreds of plans to choose from.

How to find the best energy plan in Driscoll

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Determining how much energy you will consume month-to-month is the best way to find a deal on electricity in Driscoll. Why does this matter?

You see energy companies advertising the “price per kWh” for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different equation for how your monthly statement is calculated, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much power you consume in a month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you enrolled.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to select your energy rate.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing plans by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.

Better still, if you have a year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to discover the perfect energy rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you instantly. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now done in seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans and navigating you step-by-step to the electricity rate plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then assist you in ordering your plan with your chosen energy provider without leaving our service.

The takeaway here is you must know your expected or historical usage before picking the right electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly picking the first plan you see advertised by an electricity provider at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Driscoll: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Driscoll, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan in minutes through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Driscoll

Switching is good. Market conditions are always in flux, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing energy company will typically raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity company will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Driscoll is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your current contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” penalty. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee of breaking your existing contract.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the cheapest rate.

You will want to find your historical usage for the past 12 months to determine your household’s best plan with the lowest rate.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Driscoll was founded in 1906 and named after Robert Driscoll Jr., a prominent South Texas rancher and businessman who owned vast cattle operations in the area. The town was established as a railroad stop on the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railway, serving as a shipping point for cattle and agricultural products from the surrounding ranches during the early 20th century boom.

RECENT

In 2020, Driscoll completed a major infrastructure improvement project that upgraded the city's water treatment facility and replaced aging water lines throughout the community. The $2.8 million project was funded through state grants and has significantly improved water quality and pressure for residents, marking the largest municipal investment in the city's modern history.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music singer and songwriter Koe Wetzel spent part of his childhood in the Driscoll area, where his family had deep roots in South Texas ranching. Though he later moved to other parts of Texas, Wetzel has often referenced his small-town South Texas upbringing in interviews and credits the rural lifestyle with influencing his authentic country rock sound that has gained national attention.

DID YOU KNOW

Driscoll holds the unusual distinction of being one of the few Texas towns where the original 1906 railroad depot building still serves as the unofficial community center and meeting place. The depot, which hasn't seen passenger train service since the 1960s, was converted by residents into a gathering space where the city council still holds meetings, complete with the original wooden benches and vintage railroad memorabilia on the walls.

CULTURAL

Every October, Driscoll hosts the annual 'Pumpkin Days Festival' in the town square, where residents compete in unusual contests including pumpkin bowling and seed-spitting competitions. The festival began in 1987 when a local farmer donated his entire pumpkin crop to the city after a market crash, and the tradition has continued for over three decades, drawing visitors from across South Texas to this tiny community of fewer than 800 people.
