Who delivers electricity in Coupland

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Coupland. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes Oncor delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Quick answers

Coupland electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the Oncor territory average 15.3¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.8¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Oncor is Coupland’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; Oncor delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Coupland addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Coupland today is 6.8¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

We currently price 122 plans in Coupland, every one from a PUCT-licensed provider we work with, priced with delivery included.

How to find the best energy plan in Coupland

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Discovering how much energy you will consume month-to-month is the ideal way to find a deal on energy in Coupland. Why is this important?

The rate you see power companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly statement is calculated, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much energy you consume in the month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than what you saw when you signed up.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to pick your power plan.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing plans by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.

Better still, if you have 12 months of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to discover the ideal energy plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you in an instant. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now done in a few moments.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans and assisting you step-by-step with the electricity rate plan that’s best for your household’s consumption.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to expect on your monthly bill.

We then assist you in ordering your plan with your chosen power company without ever having to leave our website.

The bottom line is you must understand your expected or historical usage before selecting the right electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you recently purchased a home or business, or you cannot obtain 12 months of usage history, you can always estimate the average amount of energy that you will use in any given month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to find the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Coupland: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Coupland, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when renewing your existing plan or possibly switching plans.

Switching electricity companies in Coupland

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower price each year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing energy company will typically raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you make the switch, your new energy company will take care of everything for you, including terminating service with your previous company.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Coupland is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days early from your current contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching companies may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the best price.

You will want to find your historical usage for the last 12 months to determine your household’s best plan with the lowest rate.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Coupland was founded in 1887 as a railroad town along the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, originally named 'Coupland's Switch' after the local railroad switch operator. The town became a vital cotton shipping point in the late 1800s, with farmers from across eastern Williamson County bringing their cotton crops to the depot for transport to markets in Austin and Houston.

RECENT

In 2019, Coupland completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street, including the conversion of the old general store into a community center. The project was funded through a combination of state historic preservation grants and local fundraising efforts, bringing new life to the tiny town's commercial district.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Coupland is the birthplace of Augie Garrido, who became the winningest coach in college baseball history with 1,975 career victories. Garrido led the University of Texas Longhorns to two College World Series championships in 2002 and 2005, and always credited his small-town Coupland upbringing for teaching him the values of hard work and perseverance.

DID YOU KNOW

Coupland is home to one of Texas's last remaining original cotton gins from the 1890s, which still contains all of its original machinery and wooden components. The gin processed over 2,000 bales of cotton annually at its peak and now serves as a museum, offering visitors a rare glimpse into the mechanical ingenuity that powered rural Texas agriculture over a century ago.

CULTURAL

Every October, Coupland hosts the annual 'Cotton Gin Festival' that draws thousands of visitors to this tiny town of fewer than 300 residents. The festival features live bluegrass music, antique tractor displays, and demonstrations of traditional cotton processing techniques, celebrating the agricultural heritage that built this small railroad community in the Texas Hill Country.
