With hundreds of plans, as many as 100+ providers compete for your account in Comstock.

How to find the best energy plan in Comstock

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Determining how much electricity you will consume monthly is the ideal way to find a deal on power in Comstock. Why should you care?

The “price per kWh” you see electricity companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly bill is computed, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much power you use each month.

Unless you match the advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you ordered.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to select your energy provider.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.

Better yet, if you have 12 months of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to discover your home’s ideal electricity rate plan.

Compare Power does all this math for you instantly. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now done in a few seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and assisting you step-by-step with the energy plan that’s best for your household’s consumption.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then assist you in signing up with your chosen energy company without ever having to leave our service.

The bottom line is you must determine your expected or historical usage before ordering the right energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business and cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate the average energy you will use in any given month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly picking the first plan you see advertised by an energy provider at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Comstock: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Comstock, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool can assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when renewing your existing plan or possibly switching plans.

Switching electricity companies in Comstock

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract expires.

Your existing energy company will typically raise your energy rate once your term expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new energy company will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Comstock is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early termination” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you are unsure, email us your latest energy bill, and one of our team members will respond to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the cheapest rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Comstock was established in 1883 as a water stop and section house for the Southern Pacific Railroad, named after railroad official John Comstock. The town served as a crucial refueling and maintenance point for steam locomotives crossing the harsh West Texas desert, with its reliable water source making it an essential link in connecting San Antonio to El Paso during the railroad expansion era.

RECENT

In 2019, Comstock became a focal point for renewable energy development when several major wind and solar companies began leasing land from local ranchers for large-scale energy projects. These developments have brought new revenue streams to the rural community, with some ranchers earning more from energy leases than traditional cattle ranching for the first time in the town's history.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Comstock was once home to legendary Texas Ranger Captain Frank Jones, who used the town as a base of operations in the 1890s while patrolling the Mexican border. Jones became famous for his pursuit of cattle rustlers and bandits along the Rio Grande, and his exploits were later featured in numerous Western novels and films about frontier law enforcement.

DID YOU KNOW

Comstock sits on one of the largest underground aquifers in West Texas, which is why the railroad chose this location in the 1880s. The town's water well, drilled over 140 years ago, still produces crystal-clear water at a rate of over 100 gallons per minute, and local residents claim it's some of the best-tasting water in all of Texas due to its natural limestone filtration.

CULTURAL

Despite having fewer than 350 residents, Comstock maintains one of the smallest independent school districts in Texas, serving students from kindergarten through 12th grade in a single building. The Comstock Panthers football team plays six-man football due to low enrollment, and the entire community turns out for games, making it a true Friday night lights experience where everyone knows every player personally.
