Who delivers electricity in Como

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Como. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes Oncor delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Quick answers

Como electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the Oncor territory average 15.3¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.8¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Oncor is Como’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; Oncor delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Como addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Como today is 6.8¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

How to find the best energy plan in Como

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Knowing the amount of electricity you will use monthly is the best way to find a deal on power in Como. Why is this so vital?

The “price per kWh” you see electricity companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly statement is computed, and your monthly bill will change according to how much power you use in a month.

Unless you match the advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than what you saw when you ordered.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to choose your power company.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly bill, is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your home.

Even better, if you have 12 months of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to find the right electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you instantly. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is now solved in moments.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans and navigating you step-by-step to the energy rate plan that’s best for your home’s consumption.

We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then help you in signing up with your chosen electricity provider without ever having to leave our service.

The takeaway here is you must know your expected or historical usage before selecting the right electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly picking the first plan you see advertised by an electricity provider at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Como: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Como, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you are unable to obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage via utilizing our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or possibly switch plans.

Switching electricity companies in Como

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower price every year when your contract expires.

Your existing electricity provider will generally raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity provider will take care of everything for you, including terminating service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Como is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early cancellation” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you are unsure, email us your latest energy bill, and one of our team members will respond to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the truly lowest rate.

You will want to find your historical usage for the past 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Como was founded in 1870 as a railroad town along the Texas and Pacific Railway line connecting Dallas to Marshall. The town's name comes from Lake Como in Italy, chosen by early Italian railroad workers who thought the surrounding countryside resembled their homeland. The railroad brought prosperity to the area, making it a key shipping point for cotton and timber from East Texas.

RECENT

In 2020, Como completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings from the early 1900s along Main Street. The project included new sidewalks, period-appropriate street lighting, and facade improvements that have attracted several new small businesses to the area. The city also installed its first electric vehicle charging station as part of a rural electrification grant program.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music songwriter and performer Don Gibson, who wrote classics like 'Sweet Dreams' and 'I Can't Stop Loving You,' spent part of his childhood in Como during the 1930s. His family moved to the area when his father worked for the railroad, and Gibson often credited the small-town atmosphere and church music he heard in Como as major influences on his later songwriting career.

DID YOU KNOW

Como is home to one of the last remaining original Texas and Pacific Railway depot buildings still in its original location and largely unmodified since 1885. The depot now serves as a small museum and contains the original telegraph equipment that was used to coordinate train schedules across East Texas. Local historians have discovered that the depot's telegraph was used to relay news of the 1901 Spindletop oil discovery across the region.

CULTURAL

Every October, Como hosts the annual 'Rails and Tales Festival' that celebrates the town's railroad heritage with vintage train car displays, storytelling sessions by local historians, and traditional railroad worker meals served from authentic chuck wagons. The festival draws visitors from across East Texas who come to experience authentic 1800s railroad culture. Local families dress in period costumes and demonstrate traditional crafts like blacksmithing and woodworking that supported the railroad industry.
