Who delivers electricity in Collinsville

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Collinsville. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. As of August 2026, plans we offer in the Oncor territory average 15.3¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.8¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Yes — most Collinsville addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

How to find the best energy plan in Collinsville

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Determining how much electricity you will consume each month is the ideal way to shop for electricity in Collinsville. Why should you care?

The rate you see power companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly statement is computed, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much power you consume in the month.

Unless you use the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you enrolled.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to pick your power plan.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing options by total monthly bill, is the best way to shop for the best rate for your home.

Better still, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to discover the right electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now done in a few moments.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans and guiding you to the best electricity plan for your home’s usage.

We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then assist you in signing up with your chosen energy company without ever having to leave our website.

The bottom line is you should know your expected or historical usage before choosing the right electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you recently purchased a home or business, or you cannot obtain 12-months of usage history, you can always estimate the average amount of energy that you will use in any given month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Collinsville: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Collinsville, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you are unable to obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage via utilizing our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Collinsville

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower price each year when your contract expires.

Your existing electricity provider will generally raise your energy rate once your term expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity provider will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Collinsville is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early cancellation” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee of breaking your existing contract.

If you are unsure, email us your latest energy bill, and one of our team members will respond to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the truly cheapest rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch, and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Collinsville was founded in 1872 when the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad built through the area, and the town was named after Collin McKinney, one of the signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence. The railroad brought prosperity to this small farming community, making it a vital shipping point for cotton and grain from the surrounding Blackland Prairie region.

RECENT

In 2020, Collinsville completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street and added new sidewalks, period lighting, and landscaping. The project has attracted new businesses and helped preserve the town's small-town charm while accommodating growth from nearby Sherman and the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music star and Grand Ole Opry member Jean Shepard was born in nearby Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, but spent much of her childhood in Collinsville during the 1930s and 1940s. She later became one of the first female country singers to have a number-one hit and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2011.

DID YOU KNOW

Collinsville is home to one of the last remaining original Katy Railroad depots in North Texas, built in 1902 and still standing on Main Street. The depot served as the town's lifeline to the outside world for decades, and local legend says that during Prohibition, it was a secret stop for bootleggers smuggling liquor from Oklahoma to Dallas.

CULTURAL

Every October, Collinsville hosts the annual Scarecrow Festival, where local businesses and residents create elaborate scarecrow displays throughout downtown that often tell stories about local history or current events. The tradition started in 1995 as a way to celebrate the town's agricultural heritage and has grown to attract visitors from across North Texas who come to vote for their favorite scarecrow creation.
