Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

How to find the best energy plan in Christine

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Determining the amount of energy you will use monthly is the best way to shop for power in Christine. Why should you care?

The rate you see electricity companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly bill is calculated, and your monthly bill will change according to how much electricity you consume in the month.

Unless you match the advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you signed up.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to choose your power rate.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing rates with the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the lowest rate.

Even better, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter and is the ideal way to find the perfect energy rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you in an instant. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now solved in seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers and navigating you step-by-step to the electricity rate plan that’s best for your home’s consumption.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then help you enroll with your chosen electricity company without leaving our service.

The takeaway here is you must know your expected or historical usage before ordering the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to find the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Christine: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Christine, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool can assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when renewing your existing plan or possibly switching plans.

Switching electricity companies in Christine

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly in flux, so it is essential to shop for a lower price each year when your contract expires.

Your existing energy provider will typically raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you switch, your new electricity provider will take care of everything for you, including terminating service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Christine is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you are unsure, email us your latest energy bill, and one of our team members will get back to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the truly lowest price.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Christine was founded in 1909 as a railroad town along the San Antonio, Uvalde and Gulf Railroad line. The town was named after Christine Kenedy, daughter of Mifflin Kenedy, one of the legendary King Ranch partners who owned vast cattle ranches across South Texas. The railroad brought prosperity to the area as a shipping point for cattle and agricultural products from the surrounding ranches.

RECENT

In 2020, Christine completed a major infrastructure improvement project that upgraded the town's water treatment facility and replaced aging water lines throughout the community. The $2.8 million project was funded through a combination of state grants and federal rural development funds, ensuring reliable water service for residents and supporting future growth in this small but resilient community.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music songwriter and performer Gary P. Nunn, famous for writing 'London Homesick Blues' (the theme song for Austin City Limits), spent part of his childhood in the Christine area. His song became an unofficial anthem of Texas, and he often credited the rural South Texas landscape around Christine for inspiring his authentic country sound and storytelling style.

DID YOU KNOW

Christine is home to one of the last remaining original wooden railroad depots in South Texas, built in 1911 and still standing today. The depot served as the town's lifeline to the outside world for decades, and during World War II, it was a crucial stop for troop trains heading to military bases in San Antonio. Local historians have preserved the depot as a testament to the town's railroad heritage.

CULTURAL

Every October, Christine hosts the annual 'Pumpkin Patch Festival' in the town square, where local families have been growing prize-winning pumpkins for over 30 years. The festival features a unique tradition called 'Pumpkin Bowling,' where contestants roll small pumpkins at pins made from corn stalks, and the winner receives a hand-carved trophy made from mesquite wood harvested from the surrounding ranch land.
