Yes — most Catarina addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

You have the power to choose your home’s energy company in Catarina.

These official rates are the identical rates you’ll find calling the energy providers or visiting their websites.

This assures Texas energy customers avoid hidden charges and marketing gimmicks by comparing plans “apples-to-apples” without wasting hours and hours making phone calls or sorting through dozens of different websites.

Energy in Catarina is deregulated. As a resident, you can choose a retail electricity provider (your energy company), which gives you insight and command over your energy bills.

Deregulation of electricity in the state de-monopolized the electricity market for most of Texas, the city of Catarina included, which introduced massive competition.

As a result, many excellent retail electricity providers compete for your business in Catarina by offering low rates, making it a great time to shop, switch, and save costs on your energy statement.

As many as 100+ energy companies compete for your account in Catarina, with hundreds of plans to sort through.

How to find the best energy plan in Catarina

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Knowing the amount of energy you will consume in a month is the best way to find a deal on electricity in Catarina. Why is this important?

The “price per kWh” you see power companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly statement is determined, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much energy you consume in a month.

Unless you use the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you ordered.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to pick your power company.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing plans by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your home.

Even better, if you have a year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to determine the ideal electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now solved in a few seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans and navigating you step-by-step to the electricity rate plan that’s best for your household’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then help you order your plan with your chosen electricity company without ever having to leave our service.

The takeaway here is you must know your expected or historical usage before selecting the right energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an energy company at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Catarina: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Catarina, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or possibly switch plans.

Switching electricity companies in Catarina

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract expires.

Your existing electricity company will typically raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you make the switch, your new electricity company will handle everything for you, including terminating service with your previous provider.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Catarina is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date within 14 days of your contract expiration without an “early cancellation” penalty. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching companies may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

For help with this, you can send us your latest energy bill via email, and one of our professional team members will contact you shortly to discuss your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the lowest price.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Catarina was founded in 1881 as a railroad town along the International-Great Northern Railroad line connecting San Antonio to Laredo. The town was named after Catarina Creek, which itself was named by Spanish explorers in honor of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, reflecting the deep Catholic heritage of early South Texas settlements.

RECENT

In 2020, Catarina became one of the smallest incorporated cities in Texas to receive federal broadband infrastructure grants, bringing high-speed internet to this rural community of just over 100 residents. The project connected the town to the digital economy and allowed local ranchers to use modern cattle management technology for the first time.

OTHER

FAMOUS PEOPLE/EVENTS: Catarina served as a filming location for several scenes in the 1956 movie 'Giant' starring Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, and James Dean. The town's authentic small-town Texas atmosphere and surrounding ranch land provided the perfect backdrop for depicting rural Texas life in the epic film about oil and cattle ranching.

DID YOU KNOW

Despite having only about 100 residents, Catarina maintains its own municipal government and is one of the smallest incorporated cities in all of Texas. The city council meetings are held in a building that also serves as the community center, post office annex, and emergency shelter, making it possibly the most multi-purpose government building per capita in the state.

OTHER

CULTURAL/UNIQUE: Catarina sits in the heart of South Texas brush country and is surrounded by some of the most productive white-tailed deer hunting ranches in North America. The town transforms each hunting season from November through January, as its population temporarily swells with hunters from across the United States who come to pursue trophy bucks in the legendary sendero-style ranches that surround this tiny community.
