How to find the best energy plan in Camp Wood

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Determining the amount of energy you will consume each month is the ideal way to shop for energy in Camp Wood. Why should you care?

The rate you see electricity providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly bill is computed, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much power you consume each month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you ordered.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to choose your power provider.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly bill, is the best way to shop for the best rate.

Even better, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to determine the perfect electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you instantly. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in a few moments.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans and navigating you step-by-step to the electricity rate plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then help you in ordering your plan with your chosen electricity company without ever having to leave our website.

The takeaway here is you should determine your expected or historical usage before picking the right energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an electricity company at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Camp Wood: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Camp Wood, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you are unable to obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage via utilizing our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan in minutes through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Camp Wood

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract expires.

Your existing energy company will typically raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you make the switch, your new energy company will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Camp Wood is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching companies may outweigh the fee of breaking your existing contract.

If you are unsure, email us your latest energy bill, and one of our team members will get back to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the truly best rate.

You will want to find your past usage for the past 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Camp Wood was established in 1857 as a frontier military outpost to protect settlers from Comanche raids along the western edge of the Texas Hill Country. The camp was named after Colonel George T. Wood, a Mexican-American War veteran and former governor of Texas, and served as a crucial link in the chain of frontier forts that stretched across West Texas during the Indian Wars.

RECENT

In 2019, Camp Wood completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic limestone buildings dating back to the 1880s. The project included the renovation of the old mercantile building into a community center and museum, helping preserve the town's frontier heritage while attracting tourists exploring the Texas Hill Country.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Camp Wood was the childhood home of legendary Texas Ranger Captain Frank Hamer, who later became famous for tracking down and killing notorious outlaws Bonnie and Clyde in 1934. Hamer learned his tracking and survival skills in the rugged hills around Camp Wood, which served him well during his decades-long career as one of Texas's most effective lawmen.

DID YOU KNOW

Camp Wood sits on one of the largest underground rivers in Texas, the Edwards Aquifer, and the town's main water well produces crystal-clear water that flows at a constant 72 degrees year-round. Local legend claims that early settlers could hear the underground river flowing beneath their feet on quiet nights, leading some to believe the area was haunted by water spirits.

CULTURAL

Camp Wood hosts an annual 'Frontier Days' celebration every October that recreates life in the 1800s, complete with blacksmith demonstrations, chuck wagon cooking, and mock gunfights in the streets. The entire town transforms into a living history museum, with residents dressing in period costumes and demonstrating traditional frontier crafts like soap making, candle dipping, and horseshoeing that were essential skills for survival on the Texas frontier.
