Who delivers electricity in Cameron

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Cameron. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes Oncor delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Quick answers

Cameron electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the Oncor territory average 15.3¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.8¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Oncor is Cameron’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; Oncor delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Cameron addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Cameron today is 6.8¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

How to find the best energy plan in Cameron

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Knowing how much electricity you will use in a month is the best way to find a deal on energy in Cameron. Why should you care?

The rate you see energy companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 2000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different equation for how your monthly statement is computed, and your monthly bill will change according to how much power you use each month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you ordered.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to select your energy plan.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly cost, is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.

Even better, if you have a year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter and is the ideal way to find the perfect electricity rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you in an instant. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans and assisting you step-by-step to the energy rate plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the details, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then help you sign up with your selected electricity company without leaving our service.

The takeaway here is you must determine your expected or historical usage before ordering the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you recently purchased a home or business, or you cannot obtain 12-months of usage history, you can always estimate the average amount of energy that you will use in any given month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Cameron: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Cameron, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you are unable to obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage via utilizing our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Cameron

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is vital to shop for a lower price every year when your contract expires.

Your existing energy company will typically raise your energy rate once your term expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you make the switch, your new energy provider will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Cameron is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days before your current contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” penalty. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you are unsure, email us your latest energy bill, and one of our team members will respond to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the truly cheapest rate.

You will want to gather your historical usage for the last 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Cameron was founded in 1846 and named after Ewen Cameron, a Scottish soldier who fought in the Texas Revolution and later died in the infamous Black Bean Episode during the Mier Expedition. The city served as the county seat of Milam County from its founding until 1874, playing a crucial role in the early development of Central Texas agriculture and commerce.

RECENT

In 2020, Cameron completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Highway 77, the city's main thoroughfare. The project included new sidewalks, period-appropriate lighting, and facade improvements that have attracted new businesses and increased tourism to this small Central Texas community.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Cameron is the birthplace of Dan Moody, who served as the 30th Governor of Texas from 1927 to 1931. Moody was the youngest person ever elected Governor of Texas at age 33 and was known for his progressive reforms and efforts to combat the Ku Klux Klan's influence in state politics during the 1920s.

DID YOU KNOW

Cameron sits directly on the Balcones Fault, a geological formation that separates the Texas Hill Country from the Coastal Plains, making it one of the few small towns where you can literally stand with one foot in each of Texas's major geographical regions. The fault line runs right through the middle of town, creating unique soil conditions that local farmers have learned to work with over generations.

CULTURAL

Every September, Cameron hosts the annual Dewberry Festival, celebrating the wild dewberries that grow abundantly in the area's creek bottoms and fence rows. The festival features dewberry pie contests, live music, and arts and crafts, drawing visitors from across Central Texas who come to taste authentic dewberry treats and learn about this often-overlooked native Texas fruit that was a staple food for early settlers.
