Who delivers electricity in Bynum

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Bynum. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes Oncor delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

You have the power to choose your home’s electric company in Bynum.

Compare Power is a free consumer service started in 2009 to assist residents of Bynum in shopping for their lowest-rate electricity plan.

These official rates are the same prices you’ll find calling the energy providers or visiting their websites.

Plans from several different energy providers are presented in a standardized format, making evaluating alternatives simple and fast.

This assures Texas consumers avoid hidden fees and advertising gimmicks by comparing plans “apples-to-apples” without throwing away hours calling different energy providers or sorting through dozens of websites.

Energy in Bynum is deregulated. As an energy customer, you can choose a retail electricity provider (your electricity provider), which gives you control and power over your energy bills.

Deregulation of energy in the state de-monopolized the electricity market for most of Texas, the city of Bynum included, which introduced massive competition.

As a result, many excellent retail electricity providers compete for your business in Bynum by offering low prices, making it a great time to shop, switch, and save costs on your power statement.

As many as 60-100 retail electricity providers compete for your account in Bynum, and hundreds of plans exist to sort through.

How to find the best energy plan in Bynum

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Discovering how much electricity you will use in a month is the ideal way to shop for energy in Bynum. Why is this important?

The rate you see energy providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly bill is calculated, and your monthly bill will change according to how much power you use in a month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to shop for an energy plan.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing options by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your household.

Better still, if you have 12 months of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to discover the perfect electricity rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now done in seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers and assisting you step-by-step with the electricity rate plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We help you sign up with your chosen energy company without leaving our service.

The bottom line is you should know your expected or historical usage before selecting the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly picking the first plan you see advertised by an energy company at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Bynum: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Bynum, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool can assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Bynum

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract expires.

Your existing energy provider will typically raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you make the switch, your new electricity provider will handle everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Bynum is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early cancellation” penalty. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you are unsure, email us your latest energy bill, and one of our team members will respond to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the best price.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Bynum was established in 1881 as a railroad town along the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad, serving as a crucial shipping point for cotton and grain from the surrounding Hill County farmland. The town was named after William D. Bynum, a prominent local landowner who donated land for the railroad depot, and quickly became a vital agricultural hub connecting rural Texas farmers to national markets.

RECENT

In 2020, Bynum completed a major infrastructure improvement project that upgraded the town's century-old water system with new pipes and a modern water tower. This $2.8 million project, funded through state grants and local bonds, ensures reliable water service for the next 50 years and has attracted several new families to settle in this small Hill County community.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music songwriter and performer Red Steagall, known for penning hits like 'Lone Star Beer and Bob Wills Music' and serving as the official Cowboy Poet of Texas, spent part of his childhood in the Bynum area. Steagall has credited the rural Hill County landscape and small-town values of places like Bynum for inspiring much of his authentic Western music and poetry that celebrates Texas ranch life.

DID YOU KNOW

Bynum holds the unusual distinction of being one of the few Texas towns where the original 1881 railroad depot building still stands and functions as the city hall today. The depot survived multiple tornado threats, the Great Depression, and railroad abandonment because residents literally moved the entire structure three blocks away from the tracks in 1952 using logs as rollers and a team of mules, preserving it as the heart of their community.

CULTURAL

Every October, Bynum hosts the annual 'Depot Days' festival that transforms the tiny town into a celebration of railroad heritage and small-town Texas life. The festival features authentic chuck wagon cooking, live country music, and a unique 'handcar race' where teams pump vintage railroad handcars down a restored section of track, drawing visitors from across Central Texas to experience genuine small-town hospitality.
