Yes — most Burke addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Burke today is 6.8¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

How to find the best energy plan in Burke

#1 rule: Usage is key!

Discovering how much energy you will use month-to-month is the ideal way to shop for energy in Burke. Why is this important?

The rate you see electricity providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 1000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different equation for how your monthly bill is determined, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much electricity you consume each month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you enrolled.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to select your power provider.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your home.

Better still, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to determine the ideal electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now solved in a few seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers and assisting you step-by-step with the electricity rate plan that’s best for your household’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to expect on your bill.

We then help you order your plan with your chosen power company without leaving our website.

The takeaway here is you should understand your expected or historical usage before choosing the right energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Burke: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Burke, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when renewing your existing plan or possibly switching plans.

Switching electricity companies in Burke

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate yearly when your contract expires.

Your existing energy company will typically raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you make the switch, your new electricity company will handle everything for you, including terminating service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Burke is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early termination” penalty. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

For help with this, you can send us your latest energy bill via email, and one of our professional team members will contact you shortly to discuss your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the best rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Burke was founded in 1882 as a railroad town along the Houston, East and West Texas Railway line. The town was named after a railroad official and quickly became a vital timber shipping point during the East Texas lumber boom, when massive virgin pine forests were harvested and shipped to markets across the growing United States.

RECENT

In 2020, Burke completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings from the early 1900s timber era. The project included converting an old sawmill office into a community center and creating a heritage trail that tells the story of the town's lumber industry past through interpretive signs and preserved equipment.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Burke was the childhood home of country music songwriter Don Cook, who went on to write hit songs for Brooks & Dunn, including 'Brand New Man' and 'Neon Moon.' Cook spent his early years in Burke before moving to Nashville, where he became one of country music's most successful producers and songwriters in the 1990s.

DID YOU KNOW

Burke is home to one of the last remaining original Houston, East and West Texas Railway depot buildings in East Texas, built in 1883. The depot still contains the original telegraph equipment used to coordinate train schedules, and local legend claims that outlaw Sam Bass once hid in the depot's attic while fleeing from Texas Rangers in 1878, though this predates the building's actual construction.

CULTURAL

Every October, Burke hosts the annual 'Timber Days Festival' that celebrates the town's logging heritage with chainsaw carving competitions, log rolling contests, and demonstrations of historical sawmill equipment. The festival features the 'World's Largest Pine Cone' display, made from over 10,000 actual pine cones collected by residents, and draws visitors from across East Texas to experience authentic lumber camp traditions.
