Who delivers electricity in Breckenridge

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Breckenridge. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes Oncor delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the Oncor territory average 15.3¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.8¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Yes — most Breckenridge addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Breckenridge today is 6.8¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

How to find the best energy plan in Breckenridge

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Knowing how much energy you will use in a month is the ideal way to shop for power in Breckenridge. Why does this matter?

The rate you see electricity providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly bill is calculated, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much electricity you consume each month.

Unless you use the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you enrolled.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to shop for a power plan.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing rates by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for you.

Even better, if you have a year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to find the ideal energy plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans and navigating you step-by-step to the energy rate plan that’s best for your household’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then assist you in signing up with your selected power company without leaving our website.

The bottom line is you must understand your expected or historical usage before selecting the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business and cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate the average energy you will use in any given month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly picking the first plan you see advertised by an energy company at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Breckenridge: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Breckenridge, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool can assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Breckenridge

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly in flux, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract expires.

Your existing electricity company will typically raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity company will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Breckenridge is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days early from your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you are unsure, email us your latest energy bill, and one of our team members will respond to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the cheapest price.

You will want to gather your past usage for the past 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Breckenridge was founded in 1876 and named after John C. Breckinridge, the 14th Vice President of the United States who later served as a Confederate general. The town experienced a massive oil boom starting in 1918 when the Ranger Oil Field was discovered, transforming it from a small farming community of 1,500 people to a bustling oil town of over 30,000 residents almost overnight.

RECENT

In 2020, Breckenridge completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings from the oil boom era and created the Breckenridge Fine Arts Center. The project has attracted new businesses and tourism, with the city now hosting monthly art walks and vintage car shows that draw visitors from across North Texas.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music star and actor Mac Davis was born in Lubbock but spent much of his childhood in Breckenridge, where his father worked in the oil fields. Davis went on to write hits for Elvis Presley including 'A Little Less Conversation' and 'In the Ghetto,' and later starred in his own variety TV show in the 1970s.

DID YOU KNOW

Breckenridge is home to the world's largest operational steam tractor, a 1920 Case steam engine that weighs 15 tons and is still fired up for special events and parades. The massive machine was originally used to power oil drilling equipment during the town's boom years and somehow survived when most similar equipment was scrapped during World War II metal drives.

CULTURAL

Every September, Breckenridge hosts the annual 'Fun-Fest' celebration that features the unique tradition of armadillo racing, where live armadillos compete on a specially built track in the town square. The festival began in 1982 as a way to celebrate the town's quirky Texas spirit, and the winning armadillo receives a tiny crown and becomes the town's honorary mascot for the year.
