AEP Central owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Blessing. Whichever plan you pick, AEP Central still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. How to find the best energy plan in Blessing

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Determining the amount of electricity you will use each month is the best way to find a deal on electricity in Blessing. Why does this matter?

The rate you see energy companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly bill is calculated, and your monthly bill will change according to how much energy you consume each month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to select your energy provider.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly cost, is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.

Even better, if you have a year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to discover the right energy plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you in an instant. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is now solved in a few seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans, and guide you step-by-step to the electricity rate plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the details, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to expect on your monthly bill.

We then help you sign up with your selected energy provider without leaving our website.

The bottom line is you must determine your expected or historical usage before choosing the right electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you recently purchased a home or business, or you cannot obtain 12-months of usage history, you can always estimate the average amount of energy that you will use in any given month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an energy company at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Blessing: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Blessing, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Blessing

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly in flux, so it is essential to shop for a lower price every year when your contract expires.

Your existing energy provider will typically raise your energy rate once your term expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you switch, your new energy company will handle everything for you, including terminating service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Blessing is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your current contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you are unsure, email us your latest energy bill, and one of our team members will respond to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the truly cheapest price.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch, and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Blessing was founded in 1903 by Jonathan Edwards Pierce, a wealthy rancher who named the town after his wife, Nannie Blessing Pierce. Pierce established the town as a shipping point for his vast cattle empire along the railroad, and legend says he declared the location 'a blessing' when he found fresh water springs on the prairie, leading to the town's unique name.

RECENT

In 2019, Blessing completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings from the early 1900s into a charming main street district. The project included the renovation of the old Pierce Hotel and the creation of a heritage trail that attracts visitors interested in Texas ranching history and small-town charm.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Blessing was the childhood home of country music songwriter Red Lane, who wrote numerous hits for Merle Haggard including 'The Fugitive' and 'I Think I'll Just Stay Here and Drink.' Lane grew up on a ranch outside Blessing in the 1940s and often credited the wide-open spaces and cowboy culture of the area as inspiration for his authentic country lyrics.

DID YOU KNOW

Blessing is home to one of the last remaining original Harvey House restaurants from the famous Fred Harvey chain that served railroad travelers across the American West. The Blessing Harvey House, built in 1906, still stands on Main Street and was once considered the finest dining establishment between Houston and San Antonio, complete with the famous 'Harvey Girls' waitresses who were recruited from back East.

CULTURAL

Every October, Blessing hosts the annual 'Blessing of the Fleet' ceremony at nearby Blessing Harbor, where local shrimp boats and fishing vessels are blessed by clergy for safety and good catches. This tradition, started by Vietnamese immigrants in the 1980s, has become a beloved community event that combines Catholic traditions with Texas Gulf Coast maritime culture, featuring decorated boats, seafood festivals, and cultural performances.
