Who delivers electricity in Blanket

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Blanket. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes Oncor delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the Oncor territory average 15.3¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.8¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Yes — most Blanket addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Blanket today is 6.8¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

Deregulation of energy in Texas de-monopolized the electricity market for the majority of Texas, the city of Blanket included, which introduced lots of competition.

As a result, many excellent power providers compete for your business in Blanket by offering low rates, making it a great time to shop, switch, and lower costs on your energy bill.

As many as 65+ providers compete for your account in Blanket and there are hundreds of plans to choose from.

How to find the best energy plan in Blanket

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Knowing how much energy you will consume monthly is the best way to shop for energy in Blanket. Why does this matter?

The rate you see power companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly statement is calculated, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much energy you use in the month.

Unless you use exactly the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you ordered.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to shop for an energy company.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing options by total monthly bill, is the best way to shop for the best rate for your home.

Better still, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method takes into account the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to find the perfect energy rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you instantly. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now solved in just seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers, and assist you step-by-step with the electricity plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges and fees, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then assist you in ordering your plan with your chosen power company without leaving our service.

The bottom line is you must understand your expected or historical usage before choosing the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you are unable to acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Blanket: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Blanket, to get the best rate you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous home-owner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you are unable to obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage via utilizing our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or to possibly switch plans.

Switching electricity companies in Blanket

Switching is good. Market conditions are always in flux, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate every year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing electricity provider will normally raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly more than the plan you signed up.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract make sure to check the rates of competing energy companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars each year on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity provider will handle everything for you including terminating service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Blanket is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days early of your current contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching companies may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

For help with this, you can send us your latest energy bill via email, and one of our professional team members will contact you shortly to discuss your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the truly best price.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch, and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Blanket was founded in 1876 and named after nearby Blanket Creek, which itself was named by early settlers who found an old Indian blanket along its banks. The town grew as a farming and ranching community along the Santa Fe Railroad, serving as a shipping point for cotton, cattle, and peanuts from the surrounding Brown County countryside.

RECENT

In 2020, Blanket ISD made headlines by becoming one of the smallest school districts in Texas to offer a comprehensive robotics program, with their team of just 12 students competing successfully against much larger schools. The program was funded through a combination of local donations and a state rural education grant, demonstrating the community's commitment to modern education despite its small size.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music songwriter and performer Red Steagall, known as the 'Cowboy Poet of Texas,' spent part of his childhood in the Blanket area during the 1940s. He later became famous for writing hits like 'Here We Go Again' for Ray Charles and Nancy Sinatra, and was named the official Cowboy Poet of Texas by the state legislature in 1991.

DID YOU KNOW

Blanket holds the unusual distinction of being one of the few Texas towns where the main street actually curves around a large oak tree that the original town planners refused to cut down in 1876. The massive live oak, now over 200 years old, still stands in the middle of what would otherwise be a straight road, forcing traffic to navigate around it in a gentle S-curve that has become the town's unofficial symbol.

CULTURAL

Every October, Blanket hosts the annual 'Blanket Days' festival, which features a unique tradition called the 'Blanket Toss' competition where teams attempt to launch pumpkins using actual blankets. The event began in 1985 as a way to celebrate the town's name and has grown to attract visitors from across Central Texas, with the winning team receiving a hand-quilted blanket made by local artisans.
