Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

How to find the best energy plan in Bay City

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Discovering the energy you will use each month is the best way to shop for power in Bay City. Why does this matter?

The rate you see electricity companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly bill is calculated, and your monthly bill will change according to how much energy you use in the month.

Unless you match the advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you ordered.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to pick your energy rate.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly bill, is the best way to shop for the best rate.

Even better, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to discover the perfect energy plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now done in a few moments.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans, to guide you to the electricity rate plan that’s best for your household’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then help you in signing up with your chosen electricity provider without ever having to leave our website.

The takeaway here is you should know your expected or historical usage before ordering the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Bay City: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Bay City, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you are unable to obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage via utilizing our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Bay City

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly in flux, so it is vital to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract expires.

Your existing electricity company will typically raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity provider will take care of everything for you, including terminating service with your previous provider.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Bay City is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” penalty. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee of breaking your existing contract.

For help with this, you can send us your latest energy bill via email, and one of our professional team members will contact you shortly to discuss your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the lowest price.

You will want to gather your historical usage for the past 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Bay City was founded in 1894 as a company town by the Matagorda County Navigation Company, which dredged the Colorado River to create a shipping channel to the Gulf of Mexico. The town was strategically positioned to serve as a rice milling and shipping center, taking advantage of the fertile coastal prairie lands that proved perfect for rice cultivation in the early 1900s.

RECENT

In 2017, Bay City completed construction of the $12 million Bay City Community Center, a state-of-the-art facility featuring a gymnasium, walking track, and meeting spaces. The project was funded through a combination of federal grants and local bonds, representing the largest municipal investment in community infrastructure in the city's modern history.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music star George Strait spent part of his childhood in nearby Pearsall but has deep family connections to Bay City through his ranching interests in the area. Additionally, Bay City was home to several members of the Tuskegee Airmen during World War II, who trained at nearby airfields before serving with distinction in the European theater.

DID YOU KNOW

Bay City sits on one of the largest underground salt domes in Texas, which extends nearly 10,000 feet below the surface and covers an area of several square miles. This massive geological formation has been mined for salt since the 1940s and creates unique soil conditions that make the area particularly suitable for certain types of agriculture and industrial development.

CULTURAL

Bay City hosts the annual Matagorda County Fair and Livestock Show, which has been running continuously since 1949 and features one of the largest youth livestock competitions in coastal Texas. The event draws over 30,000 visitors each October and showcases the area's deep agricultural heritage, with competitions ranging from cattle judging to homemade preserves, maintaining traditions that date back to the town's founding as an agricultural hub.
