Who delivers electricity in Bardwell

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Bardwell. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Yes — most Bardwell addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

How to find the best energy plan in Bardwell

#1 rule: Usage is key!

Determining the amount of electricity you will consume month-to-month is the best way to find a deal on power in Bardwell. Why is this important?

The “price per kWh” you see power providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly bill is calculated, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much energy you use in a month.

Unless you use exactly the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you enrolled.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to shop for a power plan.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on anticipate monthly usage, then comparing plans by total monthly bill, is the best way to shop for the best rate for you.

Better yet, if you have an entire year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method takes into account the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to determine the right energy plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is now solved in just moments.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans, and navigate you step-by-step to the energy plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges and fees, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to expect on your monthly bill.

We then help you in signing up with your chosen energy company without leaving our service.

The bottom line is you should understand your expected or historical usage before selecting the right energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you are unable to acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Bardwell: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Bardwell, to get the best rate you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous home-owner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you are unable to obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage via utilizing our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or to possibly switch plans.

Switching electricity companies in Bardwell

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is important to shop for a lower rate every year when your contract is about to expire.

Your existing energy company will normally raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly more than the plan you signed up.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract make sure to shop the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars each year on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you make the switch, your new energy provider will handle everything for you including terminating service with your previous provider.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Bardwell is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days early of your current contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching companies may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

For help with this, you can send us your latest energy bill via email, and one of our professional team members will contact you shortly to discuss your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the truly lowest price.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch, and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Bardwell was founded in 1886 when the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad built through the area, establishing it as a farming community. The town was named after a railroad official, and quickly became a shipping point for cotton and grain from the fertile blackland prairie of Ellis County, serving as a vital agricultural hub during the late 19th century.

RECENT

In 2018, Bardwell completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street and added new sidewalks and period lighting. The project was funded through a combination of state grants and local fundraising efforts, bringing new life to the small town's commercial district while preserving its historic character.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music singer and songwriter Red Steagall, known as the 'Cowboy Poet of Texas,' spent part of his childhood in the Bardwell area during the 1940s. He later became famous for his Western swing music and poetry, and was named the Official Cowboy Poet of Texas in 1991, often crediting his rural Ellis County upbringing for inspiring his authentic cowboy themes.

DID YOU KNOW

Bardwell sits just a few miles from Bardwell Lake, a 3,570-acre reservoir that was created in 1965 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers primarily for flood control on Waxahachie Creek. The lake was actually named after the town, making Bardwell one of the few small Texas communities to have a major lake bearing its name, and the lake now provides recreation and fishing opportunities that draw visitors from across North Texas.

CULTURAL

Despite having fewer than 700 residents, Bardwell maintains one of the most active volunteer fire departments in Ellis County, with over 20 volunteer firefighters serving not just the town but surrounding rural areas. The department hosts an annual barbecue fundraiser that draws hundreds of people from neighboring communities, creating a genuine small-town gathering that has become a beloved regional tradition for over three decades.
