Who delivers electricity in Bangs

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Bangs. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes Oncor delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Quick answers

Bangs electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the Oncor territory average 15.3¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.8¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Oncor is Bangs’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; Oncor delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Bangs addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Bangs today is 6.8¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

Deregulation of energy in the state de-monopolized the electricity market for the majority of the state, the city of Bangs included, which introduced lots of competition.

As a result, many excellent retail electricity providers compete for your business in Bangs by offering low prices, making it a great time to compare, switch, and save costs on your power statement.

As many as 60-100 retail electricity providers compete for your business in Bangs and there are hundreds of plans to choose from.

How to find the best energy plan in Bangs

#1 rule: Usage is key!

Discovering how much electricity you will use monthly is the ideal way to find a deal on energy in Bangs. Why is this so vital?

The “price per kWh” you see power providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly statement is calculated, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much electricity you use in the month.

Unless you use exactly the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to choose your power rate.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing options by total monthly bill, is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your home.

Better still, if you have an entire year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method takes into account the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to find the ideal electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in just moments.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans, and navigate you step-by-step to the electricity rate plan that’s best for your home’s consumption.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees and charges, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to expect on your monthly bill.

We then help you in enrolling with your chosen power company without ever having to leave our website.

The takeaway here is you must understand your expected or historical usage before ordering the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you are unable to acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Bangs: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Bangs, to get the best rate you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous home-owner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you are unable to obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage via utilizing our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan in minutes through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Bangs

Switching is good. Market conditions are always in flux, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate every year when your contract is about to expire.

Your existing electricity company will normally raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly more than the plan you signed up.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract make sure to check the rates of competing energy companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars each year on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new energy company will take care of everything for you including terminating service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Bangs is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days early of your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching companies may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you are unsure email us your latest energy bill and one of our team members will get back to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the truly lowest rate.

You will want to gather your past usage for the last 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Bangs was founded in 1885 when the Santa Fe Railroad came through Brown County, and the town was named after Samuel Bangs, a surveyor who helped establish the original boundaries of the Republic of Texas. The railroad brought prosperity to the area as it became a shipping point for cattle and cotton, transforming it from open rangeland into a thriving agricultural community.

RECENT

In 2020, Bangs completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street and added new sidewalks, street lighting, and landscaping. The project was funded through a combination of state grants and local fundraising efforts, bringing new businesses and renewed pride to the community's historic core.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music songwriter and performer Red Steagall, known as the 'Cowboy Poet of Texas,' spent part of his childhood in the Bangs area and often references the region in his songs about ranch life. He later became the official Cowboy Poet of Texas and has been inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame, crediting his West Texas upbringing for inspiring his authentic cowboy ballads.

DID YOU KNOW

Bangs is home to one of the last remaining original Santa Fe Railroad depots in Central Texas, built in 1911 and still standing today as a testament to the town's railroad heritage. The depot features the original telegraph equipment and waiting room benches, and local historians have preserved train schedules from the 1920s showing that up to eight passenger trains stopped in Bangs daily during its heyday.

CULTURAL

Every October, Bangs hosts the annual 'Maize Days Festival' featuring one of Texas's most challenging corn mazes, carved into a different design each year that can only be fully appreciated from an aerial view. The festival also includes a unique tradition called the 'Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off,' where local farmers compete to grow the largest pumpkins, with winners often exceeding 200 pounds and earning bragging rights that last all year.
