Who delivers electricity in Aurora

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Aurora. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes Oncor delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Quick answers

Aurora electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the Oncor territory average 15.3¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.8¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Oncor is Aurora’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; Oncor delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Aurora addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Aurora today is 6.8¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

How to find the best energy plan in Aurora

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Determining how much electricity you will use month-to-month is the best way to find a deal on electricity in Aurora. Why should you care?

The “price per kWh” you see energy providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly bill is determined, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much power you use in a month.

Unless you use exactly the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to shop for an energy plan.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing plans by total monthly cost, is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for you.

Even better, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method takes into account the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to determine the ideal electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in just seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans and assisting you step-by-step to the electricity plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the details, disclosing all fees and charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then help you in enrolling with your selected energy provider without ever having to leave our website.

The bottom line is you must determine your expected or historical usage before choosing the right electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you recently purchased a home or business, or you cannot obtain 12-months of usage history, you can always estimate the average amount of energy that you will use in any given month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Aurora: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Aurora, to get the best rate you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous home-owner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you are unable to obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage via utilizing our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or to possibly switch plans.

Switching electricity companies in Aurora

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is important to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract is about to expire.

Your existing energy company will normally raise your energy rate once your term expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly more than the plan you signed up.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract make sure to shop the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars each year on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity company will take care of everything for you including canceling service with your previous provider.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Aurora is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days early of your current contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” penalty. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you are unsure email us your latest energy bill and one of our team members will get back to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the truly cheapest price.

You will want to find your past usage for the last 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Aurora was founded in 1882 as a railroad town along the Texas and Pacific Railway line connecting Fort Worth to Dallas. The town was named after Aurora, Illinois, by early settlers who had migrated south from the Midwest seeking better farming opportunities in North Texas during the post-Civil War expansion period.

RECENT

In 2020, Aurora completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street and added new sidewalks and period lighting. The project was funded through a combination of state historic preservation grants and local fundraising efforts, bringing new life to the small town's commercial district.

OTHER

FAMOUS PEOPLE/EVENTS: Aurora gained national attention in 1897 when it became the site of one of the first reported UFO crashes in American history, allegedly involving an airship that crashed into a windmill. Local legend claims the pilot, described as 'not of this world,' was buried in the Aurora Cemetery, making the town a pilgrimage site for UFO enthusiasts over a century later.

DID YOU KNOW

Aurora is home to one of the oldest continuously operating general stores in North Texas, established in 1883 and still serving the community today. The store maintains its original tin ceiling, wooden floors, and antique cash register, and still sells penny candy from glass jars just like it did in the 1800s.

CULTURAL

Every April, Aurora hosts the annual UFO Festival celebrating its famous 1897 incident, complete with costume contests, alien-themed food vendors, and guest speakers discussing extraterrestrial phenomena. The festival draws visitors from across Texas and has become the town's signature event, embracing its unique place in American UFO folklore with humor and community pride.
