How to find the best energy plan in Asherton

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Knowing how much energy you will consume in a month is the best way to shop for electricity in Asherton. Why should you care?

The rate you see energy providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly statement is calculated, and your monthly bill will change according to how much electricity you use in the month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than what you saw when you signed up.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to select your energy rate.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on anticipate monthly usage, then comparing options by total monthly bill, is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your home.

Even better, if you have an entire year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method takes into account the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to find the ideal electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now done in a few moments.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans, and navigate you step-by-step to the electricity rate plan that’s best for your household’s usage.

We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges and fees, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then help you in signing up with your chosen energy company without leaving our service.

The bottom line is you should determine your expected or historical usage before ordering the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you recently purchased a home or business, or you cannot obtain 12-months of usage history, you can always estimate the average amount of energy that you will use in any given month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Asherton: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Asherton, to get the best rate you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous home-owner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan in minutes through Compare Power. We will remind you when its time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Asherton

Switching is good. Market conditions are always in flux, so it is essential to shop for a lower price each year when your contract is about to expire.

Your existing energy company will typically raise your energy rate once your term expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly more than the plan you signed up.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract make sure to check the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars each year on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity company will handle everything for you including canceling service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Asherton is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early termination” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you are unsure email us your latest energy bill and one of our team members will get back to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the truly best price.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch, and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Asherton was founded in 1909 as a railroad town along the International-Great Northern Railroad line that connected San Antonio to Laredo. The town was named after Asher Richardson, a prominent railroad executive who helped establish the route through South Texas, and it quickly became a vital shipping point for cattle and agricultural products from the surrounding ranches.

RECENT

In 2020, Asherton completed a major infrastructure improvement project that upgraded the city's water treatment facility and replaced aging water lines throughout the community. The $2.8 million project was funded through state grants and has significantly improved water quality and pressure for residents, marking the largest municipal investment in the city's modern history.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Asherton was the childhood home of Jovita Idar, a pioneering Mexican-American journalist and civil rights activist who became one of the first female journalists in Texas in the early 1900s. She founded La Liga Femenil Mexicanista in 1911 and used her newspaper platform to advocate for women's rights and Mexican-American civil rights throughout South Texas.

DID YOU KNOW

Asherton holds the unusual distinction of being one of the few Texas towns where the main street railroad tracks are still actively used by freight trains that literally bisect the downtown area multiple times daily. Residents and visitors must wait for trains to pass before crossing from one side of Main Street to the other, creating a unique rhythm of daily life that has remained unchanged for over a century.

CULTURAL

Asherton celebrates its rich Mexican-American heritage with an annual Diez y Seis de Septiembre festival that draws visitors from across South Texas. The three-day celebration features traditional mariachi music, folklorico dancing, and authentic regional cuisine, with many recipes passed down through families who have lived in the area since before the Mexican-American War.
