Who delivers electricity in Arp

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Arp. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes Oncor delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Quick answers

Arp electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the Oncor territory average 15.3¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.8¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Oncor is Arp’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; Oncor delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Arp addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Arp today is 6.8¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

We currently price 122 plans in Arp, every one from a PUCT-licensed provider we work with, priced with delivery included.

Electricity in Arp is deregulated. As an energy customer, you have a choice when picking a retail electricity provider (your energy provider), which gives you insight and command over your energy bills.

Deregulation of energy in Texas de-monopolized the electricity market for most of the state, the city of Arp included, which introduced lots of competition.

As a result, many fantastic retail electricity providers compete for your business in Arp by offering low prices, making it a great time to shop, switch, and save costs on your energy statement.

As many as 60-100 energy companies compete for your business in Arp, with hundreds of plans to select from.

How to find the best energy plan in Arp

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Discovering the amount of energy you will consume month-to-month is the best way to find a deal on power in Arp. Why does this matter?

The rate you see electricity companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly statement is computed, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much power you use in the month.

Unless you use the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you ordered.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to choose your power plan.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing options by total monthly bill, is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your home.

Better still, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to discover the ideal electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in just seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and assisting you step-by-step with the energy plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then help you in enrolling with your chosen electricity company without ever having to leave our service.

The bottom line is you should know your expected or historical usage before picking the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly picking the first plan you see advertised by an electricity company at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Arp: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Arp, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Arp

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly in flux, so it is essential to shop for a lower price every year when your contract expires.

Your existing electricity company will typically raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new energy company will handle everything for you, including terminating service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Arp is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your current contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

For help with this, you can send us your latest energy bill via email, and one of our professional team members will contact you shortly to discuss your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the truly lowest price.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch, and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Arp was founded in 1902 when the Texas and Pacific Railway established a depot at this location, naming it after Bill Arp, the pen name of Georgia humorist Charles Henry Smith. The town grew rapidly as a timber and agricultural center, with the railroad bringing prosperity to what had been dense East Texas pine forest until the early 1900s.

RECENT

In 2020, Arp completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Front Street and created new community gathering spaces. The project included installing period-appropriate streetlights and sidewalks, transforming the small downtown area into a charming destination that attracts visitors from across East Texas.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music legend Don Henley of the Eagles was born in nearby Gilmer but spent much of his childhood in Arp, where his family had deep roots. Henley has often credited his East Texas upbringing, including time spent in Arp, as a major influence on his songwriting, particularly songs like 'The End of the Innocence' which reflects on small-town American life.

DID YOU KNOW

Arp is home to one of the last remaining original Texas and Pacific Railway depots in East Texas, built in 1902 and still standing today. The depot now serves as a museum and community center, housing artifacts from the town's railroad days including the original telegraph equipment that connected Arp to the outside world over a century ago.

CULTURAL

Every October, Arp hosts the annual 'Arp Fall Festival' which features the unique tradition of the 'Pine Cone Toss Championship,' where contestants compete to throw East Texas pine cones the farthest distance. The festival celebrates the town's timber heritage and draws hundreds of visitors who come to experience authentic small-town Texas hospitality and sample local East Texas barbecue and sweet tea.
