Who delivers electricity in Archer City

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Archer City. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes Oncor delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Yes — most Archer City addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Archer City today is 6.8¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

How to find the best energy plan in Archer City

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Knowing how much energy you will use each month is the ideal way to shop for energy in Archer City. Why does this matter?

The rate you see energy providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly bill is computed, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much electricity you use in a month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you ordered.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to pick your electricity provider.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly cost, is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.

Even better, if you have an entire year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method takes into account the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to determine the ideal electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now solved in a few seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans and guiding you step-by-step to the energy rate plan that’s best for your home’s consumption.

We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges and fees, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then help you in enrolling with your chosen electricity provider without ever having to leave our service.

The takeaway here is you should know your expected or historical usage before picking the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you recently purchased a home or business, or you cannot obtain 12-months of usage history, you can always estimate the average amount of energy that you will use in any given month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Archer City: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Archer City, to get the best rate you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous home-owner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you are unable to obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage via utilizing our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or to possibly switch plans.

Switching electricity companies in Archer City

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing electricity company will normally raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly more than the plan you signed up.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract make sure to shop the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars each year on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you make the switch, your new energy provider will handle everything for you including canceling service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Archer City is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days early of your current contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you are unsure email us your latest energy bill and one of our team members will respond to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the truly best rate.

You will want to find your historical usage for the past 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Archer City was founded in 1888 when the Wichita Valley Railway came through the area, establishing it as the county seat of Archer County. The town was named after Branch Tanner Archer, a Texas Republic commissioner and signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, cementing its place in the founding story of Texas itself.

RECENT

In 2020, Archer City made national headlines when legendary author Larry McMurtry announced he was closing his famous Booked Up bookstore and auctioning off over 400,000 books. The three-day auction drew bibliophiles from around the world and marked the end of an era for what was once one of America's largest rare book collections housed in a small Texas town.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Archer City is the hometown of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Larry McMurtry, who wrote 'Lonesome Dove' and 'Terms of Endearment.' McMurtry based many of his novels on his experiences growing up in this small Texas town, and the 1971 film 'The Last Picture Show,' which he co-wrote, was actually filmed on location in Archer City using local residents as extras.

DID YOU KNOW

Archer City became a major tourist destination in the 1990s and 2000s because Larry McMurtry operated four massive bookstores in the tiny town, housing over 450,000 books in buildings that once served as car dealerships and department stores. Visitors would travel from across the globe to browse through what McMurtry called 'the world's largest collection of books in the smallest space,' turning this town of fewer than 2,000 people into an unlikely literary pilgrimage site.

CULTURAL

Every August, Archer City hosts the annual 'Last Picture Show' festival, celebrating the Academy Award-winning film that put their town on the map. The festival features screenings of the movie at the restored Royal Theater (the same theater used in the film), classic car shows, and tours of filming locations, allowing visitors to step back into the 1950s small-town Texas atmosphere that made the movie so iconic.
