Who delivers electricity in Ackerly

Oncor owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Ackerly. Whichever plan you pick, Oncor still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes Oncor delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Quick answers

Ackerly electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the Oncor territory average 15.3¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.8¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Oncor is Ackerly’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; Oncor delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Ackerly addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Ackerly today is 6.8¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

We currently price 122 plans in Ackerly, every one from a PUCT-licensed provider we work with, priced with delivery included.

How to find the best energy plan in Ackerly

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Discovering the amount of energy you will consume month-to-month is the best way to find a deal on energy in Ackerly. Why is this so vital?

The rate you see power companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly bill is calculated, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much electricity you consume in a month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you enrolled.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to choose your energy rate.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on anticipate monthly usage, then comparing options by total monthly bill, is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.

Better still, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method takes into account the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to find the ideal electricity rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now solved in just seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers and assisting you step-by-step with the electricity plan that’s best for your household’s consumption.

We clarify the details, disclosing all fees and charges, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to expect on your bill.

We then assist you in enrolling with your selected electricity company without ever having to leave our website.

The bottom line is you must determine your expected or historical usage before selecting the right energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you are unable to acquire 12-months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12-months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Ackerly: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Ackerly, to get the best rate you need to get the previous 12-months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous home-owner to provide you with their past 12-months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12-months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you are unable to obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage via utilizing our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or to possibly switch plans.

Switching electricity companies in Ackerly

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower price every year when your contract is about to expire.

Your existing energy company will typically raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly higher than the plan you signed up.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract make sure to shop the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars each year on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new energy company will take care of everything for you including terminating service with your previous company.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Ackerly is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days early of your current contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

For help with this, you can send us your latest energy bill via email, and one of our professional team members will contact you shortly to discuss your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the truly best rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch, and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Ackerly was established in 1910 as a railroad town along the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway line that connected West Texas cotton farming communities to major markets. The town was named after a railroad official and served as a crucial shipping point for cotton and cattle during the early 20th century agricultural boom in the South Plains region.

RECENT

In 2018, Ackerly became part of a major wind energy development project that installed over 50 wind turbines across the surrounding farmland. The Spinning Spur Wind Farm now generates enough clean electricity to power approximately 60,000 homes while providing significant lease income to local landowners and tax revenue to Dawson County.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music singer Mac Davis, who wrote hits like 'In the Ghetto' for Elvis Presley and 'I Believe in Music,' spent part of his childhood in nearby Lubbock but often visited family friends in the Ackerly area. Davis later credited the small-town West Texas atmosphere and agricultural lifestyle as major influences on his songwriting style and down-to-earth persona.

DID YOU KNOW

Ackerly sits on one of the largest underground freshwater aquifers in Texas, the Ogallala Aquifer, which extends from South Dakota to Texas. Despite being in an arid region that receives only 18 inches of rainfall annually, local farmers can drill down 200-300 feet to access this ancient water source that was formed over 10 million years ago during the Miocene epoch.

CULTURAL

Every October, Ackerly hosts the annual 'Pumpkin Capital Days' festival, celebrating the area's surprising success in pumpkin farming despite the semi-arid climate. Local farmers discovered that the sandy soil and underground irrigation create perfect conditions for growing prize-winning pumpkins, with some specimens weighing over 400 pounds and being shipped to fall festivals across Texas and New Mexico.
