Energy in Quitaque is deregulated. As a resident, you have a choice when selecting a retail electricity provider (your energy provider), which gives you insight and control over your energy bills.

Deregulation of energy in the state de-monopolized the electricity market for most of the state, including the city of Quitaque, which introduced lots of competition.

As a result, many fantastic power companies compete for your business in Quitaque by offering low rates, making it a great time to compare, switch, and save money on your electricity statement.

As many as 100+ energy companies compete for your business in Quitaque, and hundreds of plans exist to sort through.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Quitaque

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Discovering how much electricity you will use monthly is the best way to find a deal on energy in Quitaque. Why should you care?

The rate electricity providers advertise for an exact monthly usage (usually 2000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different equation for how your monthly statement is computed, and your monthly bill will change according to how much power you consume each month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than what you saw when you enrolled.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to choose your energy plan.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing rates with the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the best rate for you.

Better still, if you have a year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to discover the perfect electricity rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is solved in moments.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans and assisting you step-by-step with the electricity rate plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then assist you in signing up with your selected energy company without leaving our website.

The bottom line is you should determine your expected or historical usage before choosing the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage or own a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly picking the first plan you see advertised by an energy company at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Quitaque: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Quitaque, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool can assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or switch plans.

Switching Electricity Companies in Quitaque

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower price every year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing electricity company will typically raise your energy rate once your term expires. If you do not act, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don’t have to call your current company to cancel (no “break-up call”)
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your power supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you switch, your new electricity company will handle everything for you, including terminating service with your previous company.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Quitaque is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date within 14 days of your contract expiration without an “early cancellation” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the best price.

You will want to gather your past usage for the past 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Quitaque Electricity Rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Quitaque was founded in 1890 and gets its name from a Comanche Indian word meaning 'end of the trail' or 'surface water stops here.' The town served as a crucial stop for cattle drives heading north, where cowboys would water their herds at the natural springs before continuing across the dry Llano Estacado plains.

RECENT

In 2019, Quitaque completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street, including the old mercantile building that now houses a community center. The project was funded through a combination of state grants and local fundraising efforts, bringing new life to the tiny town's commercial district.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music legend Mac Davis spent part of his childhood in Quitaque visiting his grandparents during summers in the 1950s. Davis later wrote hits for Elvis Presley including 'A Little Less Conversation' and 'In the Ghetto,' and often credited his time in small-town Texas for inspiring his storytelling songwriting style.

DID YOU KNOW

Quitaque is home to one of the last remaining original Sinclair dinosaur gas station signs from the 1960s, still standing at the old service station on Main Street. The green brontosaurus sign has become a pilgrimage site for vintage advertising collectors and Route 66 enthusiasts, even though the station closed in 1987 and the sign hasn't been lit in decades.

CULTURAL

Every October, Quitaque hosts the annual 'Caprock Canyons Trailway Days' festival celebrating the old railway line that once connected the town to the outside world. The festival features a chili cook-off, live music, and guided tours of the nearby Caprock Canyons State Park, drawing visitors from across the Texas Panhandle to this tiny community of just over 400 residents.
