AEP North owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Quanah. Whichever plan you pick, AEP North still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. As of August 2026, plans we offer in the AEP North territory average 16.1¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.6¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Yes — most Quanah addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Quanah today is 6.6¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

You have the power to choose your home’s energy company in Quanah.

Compare Power is a free consumer service established in 2009 to help residents of Quanah shop for their best electricity plan.

These official rates are the identical rates you’ll find contacting the energy providers or visiting them online.

Offers from several different energy providers are displayed in a standardized grid, making comparing your options simple and fast.

This assists Texas energy customers in avoiding hidden fees and marketing gimmicks by comparing “apples-to-apples” plans without wasting hours and hours making phone calls or clicking through hundreds of websites.

Electricity in Quanah has been deregulated. As a resident, you can choose a retail electricity provider (your electricity company), which gives you flexibility and power over your energy bills.

Deregulation of energy in the state de-monopolized the energy market for most of Texas, the city of Quanah included, which introduced massive competition.

As a result, many excellent retail electricity providers compete for your business in Quanah by offering low rates, making it a great time to shop, switch, and save costs on your energy statement.

As many as 60-100 retail electricity providers compete for your account in Quanah, and hundreds of plans exist to sort through.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Quanah

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Knowing how much electricity you will use month-to-month is the ideal way to shop for energy in Quanah. Why is this so vital?

The rate you see power providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly bill is calculated, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much electricity you consume in the month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you signed up.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to pick your energy rate.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing plans by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your household.

Even better, if you have a year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to discover your home’s ideal energy rate plan.

Compare Power does all this math for you in an instant. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now done in seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and assisting you step-by-step with the electricity rate plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then help you order your plan with your chosen power provider without ever leaving our service.

The bottom line is you should know your expected or historical usage before selecting the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate your average monthly energy usage in any given month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to find the best energy plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Quanah: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Quanah, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: You can estimate your monthly usage if you can’t obtain a usage history. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching Electricity Companies in Quanah

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate every year when your contract is about to expire.

Your existing electricity provider will normally raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you do not act, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don’t have to call your current company to cancel (no “break-up call”)
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your power supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you decide to switch, your new electricity company will handle everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Quanah is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days early from your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” penalty. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the best rate.

You will want to find your historical usage for the last 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Quanah Electricity Rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Quanah was founded in 1886 and named after Quanah Parker, the last chief of the Comanche tribe and son of white captive Cynthia Ann Parker. The town was established along the Fort Worth and Denver Railway, and Quanah Parker himself attended the town's dedication ceremony, making it one of the few Texas cities named after a Native American leader with his personal blessing.

RECENT

In 2020, Quanah completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street, including the conversion of the old Hardeman County Hospital into senior housing. The project brought new businesses to the downtown core and earned recognition from the Texas Historical Commission for historic preservation excellence.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Quanah was the childhood home of legendary Texas Ranger Captain Manuel 'Lone Wolf' Gonzaullas, who became famous in the 1930s for cleaning up East Texas oil boomtowns. Gonzaullas was known for his pearl-handled pistols and his ability to restore order in lawless frontier communities, earning him a place in the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame.

DID YOU KNOW

Quanah is home to the Copper Breaks State Park, which contains some of the most significant Comanche archaeological sites in Texas, including ancient petroglyphs and camping grounds used by Quanah Parker's band. The park's red mesas and copper-colored rock formations create a landscape so unique that Hollywood has used it as a filming location for several Western movies, standing in for Arizona and New Mexico.

CULTURAL

Every October, Quanah hosts the annual 'Chief Quanah Parker Days' festival, featuring a powwow with Native American dancers from across the Southwest, traditional Comanche storytelling, and historical reenactments. The festival draws visitors from several states and includes a ceremony at Quanah Parker's nearby grave site, making it one of the most authentic Native American cultural celebrations in North Texas.
