CenterPoint owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Pledger. Yes — most Pledger addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Pledger today is 5.9¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

Electricity in Pledger has been deregulated. As an energy consumer, you have a choice when selecting a retail electricity provider (your energy company), which gives you flexibility and power over your energy bill.

Deregulation of energy in the state de-monopolized the electricity market for most of the state, the city of Pledger included, which introduced massive competition.

As a result, many excellent energy providers compete for your business in Pledger by offering low prices, making it a great time to compare, switch, and save money on your energy statement.

As many as 65+ energy companies compete for your business in Pledger, with hundreds of plans to select from.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Pledger

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Discovering how much electricity you will use in a month is the best way to find a deal on electricity in Pledger. Why does this matter?

The rate you see energy providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly statement is calculated, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much energy you use in the month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you ordered.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to shop for an electricity provider.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your household.

Even better, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to find the right electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now solved in a few moments.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and guide you step-by-step to the electricity rate plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then assist you in ordering your plan with your chosen electricity provider without ever having to leave our website.

The bottom line is you must understand your expected or historical usage before ordering the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage or own a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Pledger: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Pledger, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool can assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching Electricity Companies in Pledger

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly in flux, so it is important to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing electricity company will normally raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you do not act, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don’t have to contact your current provider to cancel (no “break-up call”)
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your electricity supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you switch, your new energy company will cover everything, including terminating service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Pledger is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date within 14 days of your contract expiration without an “early cancellation” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching companies may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the lowest price.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you must collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Pledger Electricity Rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Pledger was founded in 1902 as a railroad town along the Santa Fe Railway line that connected Houston to the Gulf Coast. The town was named after William Pledger, a prominent African American politician and customs collector who served as a delegate to the Republican National Convention and was instrumental in securing the railroad's route through this area of Matagorda County.

RECENT

In 2020, Pledger completed a major infrastructure improvement project that upgraded its water treatment facility and replaced aging water lines throughout the small community. This $2.8 million project, funded through state grants and federal assistance, ensures clean water delivery for the next 30 years and has attracted several new families to settle in this rural Texas town.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music songwriter and producer Red Lane, who penned hits for Merle Haggard including 'The Fugitive' and 'If We Make It Through December,' spent part of his childhood in Pledger during the 1940s. Lane later became one of Nashville's most respected songwriters, with over 400 recorded songs to his credit, but always spoke fondly of his small-town Texas roots.

DID YOU KNOW

Pledger holds the unusual distinction of being one of the few Texas towns where the post office building has served continuously in the same location since 1903, making it older than the state of Oklahoma. The original wooden structure was replaced with brick in 1925, but the postal service has never missed a single day of operation in over 120 years, even during the devastating Hurricane Carla in 1961.

CULTURAL

Every October, Pledger hosts the annual 'Harvest Moon Festival' where the entire population of 250 residents opens their doors to visitors for a community-wide potluck dinner served on tables set up along Main Street. This tradition began in 1955 when a traveling preacher got stranded in town during a storm, and the whole community came together to feed him, creating a bond that continues today with visitors coming from across Southeast Texas.
