Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Moran

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Determining how much electricity you will use monthly is the best way to shop for electricity in Moran. Why is this important?

The rate you see power providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different equation for how your monthly bill is computed, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much power you consume in a month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you signed up.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to pick your electricity provider.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing options by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the best rate for your home.

Even better, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to find the perfect energy plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is done in a few moments.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers and navigating you step-by-step to the energy rate plan that’s best for your household’s consumption.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then help you enroll with your chosen power provider without ever leaving our service.

The takeaway here is you should understand your expected or historical usage before ordering the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage or own a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Moran: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Moran, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: You can estimate your monthly usage if you can’t obtain a usage history. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching Electricity Companies in Moran

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate every year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing energy provider will typically raise your energy rate once your term expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don’t have to contact your current company to cancel (no “break-up call”)
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your electricity supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you make the switch, your new electricity company will handle everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Moran is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the best price.

You will want to find your past usage for the past 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Moran Electricity Rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Moran was founded in 1881 as a railroad town along the Texas and Pacific Railway, originally named 'Doran' after a railroad official. The town's name was later changed to Moran due to postal confusion with another Texas town, and it quickly became a vital shipping point for cattle ranchers in the rugged Shackelford County region during the late 1800s cattle boom.

RECENT

In 2020, Moran completed a major infrastructure upgrade project that brought high-speed fiber internet to this tiny West Texas community of just 267 residents. The project, funded through a rural broadband initiative, has allowed several residents to work remotely and has attracted a few new families to the area, helping stabilize the town's declining population.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music songwriter and performer Red Steagall, known as the 'Cowboy Poet of Texas,' spent significant time in Moran during his youth and credits the town's ranching culture with inspiring many of his songs. Steagall later became the official Cowboy Poet of Texas and has written hits for artists like Ray Price and Bob Wills, always maintaining his connection to this small Shackelford County community.

DID YOU KNOW

Moran is home to one of the last remaining original Texas and Pacific Railway depots in West Texas, built in 1881 and still standing today. The depot now serves as a museum and community center, and railroad enthusiasts travel from across the country to see this perfectly preserved example of 19th-century frontier railroad architecture, complete with original telegraph equipment and waiting room benches.

CULTURAL

Every October, Moran hosts the annual 'Pumpkin Festival' where the entire town population of 267 people comes together to carve jack-o'-lanterns that line Main Street from end to end. The tradition started in 1995 when a local farmer donated his entire pumpkin crop to the town, and now visitors from surrounding counties come to see this tiny community transformed into what locals proudly call 'the most pumpkins per capita in Texas.'
